Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman to challenge his suspension in an appeal hearing scheduled for Friday.

Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman will plead his case to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman on Friday in Montreal, hoping to reduce his 10-game suspension. According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, Hartman is appealing the punishment he received for a February 1st incident in which he slammed Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stützle to the ice after a faceoff, earning a match penalty for intent to injure.

This marks the fourth time since 2023—and the fifth in his career—that Hartman has been suspended—a history that factored heavily into the league’s decision to issue such a lengthy ban. The NHLPA officially filed the appeal on his behalf last Wednesday, giving Hartman the first of two chances to get the suspension reduced. If Bettman upholds the ruling or keeps it above six games, Hartman can escalate the appeal to a neutral arbitrator.

Wild GM Bill Guerin has previously voiced concerns about Hartman’s on-ice discipline, emphasizing in an interview with The Athletic’s Joe Smith that the forward needs to clean up his game to avoid harsher consequences. While Hartman thrives on playing with an edge, he’s crossed the line too many times, leading to costly suspensions.

Beyond missing critical games for the Wild, this suspension is hitting Hartman hard financially—he’s losing approximately $48,780 per game, making this appeal a high-stakes battle not just for his playing time but also for his wallet.
