Rob Gronkowski lauds Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield as the ‘Ultimate Teammate’

In the debut episode of "Dudes on Dudes," Gronkowski shares an intriguing behind-the-scenes story of Mayfield's dedication and timing.

Baker Mayfield has been making waves in the NFL, not only for his performance on the field but also for his character off it. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski recently lauded Mayfield for being the “ultimate teammate.”

During the debut episode of the podcast Dudes on Dudes with Gronk and Jules, Gronk recalled how Mayfield didn’t let his newly signed contract change his work ethic.

Gronkowski shared that even after signing a massive deal with Tampa Bay—worth $100 million over three years—Mayfield immediately joined a pre-scheduled workout. “It was like nothing happened,” Gronk said. “He didn’t have an ego. He didn’t have a big head or nothing. He just showed up and frickin’ put the work in that day and hit some more [personal records].”

What Gronk appreciates most about Mayfield is his humble, down-to-earth attitude. “He’s a dude, man. He’s a dog. He wants to get dirty,” Gronk continued. This dedication and commitment to his teammates is what sets Mayfield apart as a leader, especially after stepping into the role once filled by Tom Brady.

Their time together in Tampa Bay

Mayfield and Gronkowski share more than just a mutual respect for each other. They were teammates at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where their time together helped forge a strong bond. Gronk’s admiration for Mayfield comes from witnessing firsthand how the quarterback brings a positive energy into the locker room.

“He’s like the ultimate locker room guy,” Gronkowski added. “Quarterbacks aren’t really like this. …He’s no bull—-.” Whether it’s on or off the field, Mayfield’s attitude and work ethic seem to have made a lasting impression on Gronk and the rest of the team.

Mayfield leads the pack in touchdowns

As of Week 7, Mayfield leads the NFL quarterback stats with an impressive 15 passing touchdowns, further solidifying his role as a key player for Tampa Bay this season. He also boasts a 54.4% passing success rate, ranking first in the league.

His rivals, however, are not far behind. Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow trails slightly with 12 touchdowns, while Jacksonville Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence has the least with 8 touchdowns.

Mayfield’s stats speak volumes about his performance this season. He ranks fourth in completion percentage at 70.9% and has thrown for 1,489 yards, placing him eighth in total passing yards. His leadership has helped Tampa Bay secure a 4-2 record, and he shows no signs of slowing down.
