Manchester City’s Pursuit of Lyon’s Talented Playmaker Gains Momentum
Manchester City following their withdrawal from their pursuit of Florian Wirtz have moved on. Having a strong interest in French International Rayan Cherki, the Cityzens have been in advanced talks to secure the 20-year-old. Moreover, following the departure of Kevin De Bruyne, Cherki is also being called the replacement of the Belgian midfielder.
Cherki playing for Olympiacos Lyon has caught the attention of multiple elite clubs from all over the world. Cherki had 19 G/A in the Ligue 1 as he helped Lyon finish sixth in the 2024/25 season. Manchester City following the void is speculated to be ready to submit a bid for Cherki in the summer window.
Manchester City will be keen to have some strong recruitments following a tough season to their standards. Cherki who fits all the attributes required to play for Pep Guardiola’s side will be pursued strongly over the summer according to the latest reports.
According to the famous journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City is set to submit a bid of around €30 million for Cherki in the transfer window. Following a stellar season, Cherki’s four goals and eight assists have stood out in scouting lists of the clubs.
As per his latest report in June 2025, Romano mentions the advances talks saying: “Understand Manchester City and Rayan Cherki have reached an agreement on personal terms! Official bid from Manchester City to OL will be submitted in the next hours and in order to advance after initial club to club talks starter over the weekend.”
Cherki is also being sought out by several elite Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham over the summer transfer window. With the high competition, Guardiola and his side might have to go above Cherki’s market price to secure his talents.
Manchester City will head to the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in June. Guardiola might look to secure Cherki before the tournament in the USA. Having a Trophyless season following their defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup 2025 finals, the Cityzens will look to change things around in June as they set out for recruitment.
