It was from a cheeky text message from Andy Murry after Arsenal beat Real Madrid in the Champions League last month.

A farewell ceremony was held for Nadal who spoke at a press conference following the farewell. There he surprised everyone by revealing a humorous message he received from Andy Murray. Reading out the text and laughing with the everyone, Nadal exclaimed, ‘always British’.

The Text That Had Everyone Laughing

Rafael Nadal is a known Real Madrid supporter, and talking about a moment of banter between him and Andy Murray, he recalled:

“My good friend Andy, we were not in touch for a while, the day that Arsenal beat Real Madrid, when the match just finished, after one second, he text me a message, telling me… I gonna read, because it’s quite good (laughter). I feel that it’s quite interesting – ‘Hey, Rafa, haven’t spoken to you in a while. Just checking in to make sure you are okay.’”

Nadal agreed aughing that it took him a while to understand the banter behind the message, saying:

“At the beginning, I was saying, ok, he’s such a nice guy. He’s asking me about how I’m doing, family. Then after 5 seconds, I said, ‘This always British sense of humor.’ By the way, I didn’t text him back when PSG beat Arsenal.”

Nadal also reflected fondly on reconnecting with the rest of the Big Four—Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray. All of the rest three were all in attendance for his send-off. Their on-court rivalry has evolved into a deep friendship over the years. And heartfelt moments like this has come out of it again and again.
