Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova Among the Top Reactions for Jannik Sinner vs. Carlos Alcaraz Wimbledon Final!

Devavrat Kulkarni

The Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry is the next big thing in tennis!

An already established rivalry between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz just concluded its thirteenth chapter this past Sunday when the Italian lifted the 2025 Wimbledon title over his great rival.

The pair have, for the moment, easily distanced themselves from the rest of the pack and taken over the mantle of the next top players following the retirements of Federer and Nadal, and the struggles of the 38-year-old Djokovic.

The duo of Sinner and Alcaraz has met thrice this year now, and twice in the final of a major. While the Spaniard came out on top at Roland Garros, Sinner avenged the defeat at Wimbledon. And, in doing so, he also became the first Italian player to ever win the singles crown at the All England Club.

Top Reactions Following the 2025 Men’s Wimbledon Final

Following the three-hour-long, four-set battle between the two players on Sunday, several former players from the tennis fraternity took to social media to congratulate the new Champion and acknowledge the pair for what they are bringing to the game of tennis.

Among the first ones to react were Alcaraz’s countryman and legend, Rafael Nadal himself, as well as the 2004 Wimbledon winner Maria Sharapova. Here is a look at what all the greats of the game had to say about the final.

Rafael Nadal

The 22-time major winner took to his X account to pass on a lovely message in Italian to Sinner in which he said:

“Congratulations @janniksin on your first @Wimbledon 🏆! Special moments!”

The 2-time Wimbledon winner then continued his post in Spanish for Alcaraz, congratulating him on yet another great tournament and the year he is currently having.

“I know it won’t be an easy day, but… Congratulations @carlosalcaraz on another Grand Slam final and for the great season you’re having!”

Maria Sharapova

Five-time major winner, Sharapova, poked fun at Sinner when she shared an old post in which she and Sinner can be seen singing and dancing to a Christmas song.

Rod Laver

The ‘Rocket’, as he is fondly known, Rod Laver, had perhaps the best message to both players as he congratulated Sinner on his first Wimbledon title and the pair for their friendly rivalry.

“Congratulations to Jannik Sinner on winning his first Wimbledon title in another thrilling contest with Carlos Alcaraz. Their growing rivalry is a gift to our sport, and it’s matched by the genuine respect they show for each other. Win or lose, they compete with joy, class, and sportsmanship. That’s what makes champions.”

Billie Jean King

Six-time Wimbledon Champion, Billie Jean King, also congratulated Sinner on his victory and for becoming the first Italian to hoist the Wimbledon trophy.

“Congratulations to Jannik Sinner on his very first #Wimbledon title!

He is the first-ever Italian player to win a singles title at The Championships.”

Other notable athletes to post messages on their social media accounts include former tennis players Ana Ivanovic and Caroline Garcia, former tennis coach Brad Gilbert, professional Alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, and more.

The rivalry that has now taken center stage has only just begun. If both players are able to stay healthy throughout their respective careers, tennis fans could be in for a treat as the new era takes over.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
