Premier League: Man City vs Brighton – Injury News, Injury Update, Predicted Lineups and More

Abhinav Goel

The Seagulls stunned City with a 2-1 victory in their last meeting at the Amex Stadium four months ago.

Manchester City face a vital showdown against Brighton as the battle for a top-four finish in the Premier League heats up. City currently sits fifth in the standings with 47 points from 28 matches, level with Newcastle (6th) and just one point ahead of Brighton (7th). A defeat here could see them drop further down the table, putting their Champions League qualification hopes in serious jeopardy.

Meanwhile, Brighton are also aiming for a top-four push. A win against City would propel them into the European spots, overtaking Guardiola’s side in the process. With Chelsea and Nottingham Forest also in contention, every point is now crucial in the final stretch of the season.

Manchester City will be desperate to bounce back after their ninth league defeat of the season, a 1-0 loss to third-placed Nottingham Forest last weekend. Pep Guardiola’s side has struggled for consistency and now faces an in-form Brighton, who have already beaten them once this season. The Seagulls stunned City with a 2-1 victory in their last meeting at the Amex Stadium four months ago. With Champions League qualification on the line, City will be seeking revenge and crucial points to avoid slipping further in the table.

However, both of these teams are dealing with injury concerns that could impact their squad selection.

Manchester City Injury News

Manchester City continue to struggle with multiple injury setbacks. Rodri (ACL), Nathan Ake (foot), Manuel Akanji (abductor), and John Stones (thigh) all remain sidelined, while there is still uncertainty over when Oscar Bobb (ankle/fitness) will return to first-team action.

In defense, Abdukodir Khusanov, Ruben Dias, and Josko Gvardiol are expected to retain their spots in the backline. Pep Guardiola will have to decide whether to bring Rico Lewis back at right-back or stick with Matheus Nunes in that role.

Phil Foden has a great record against Brighton, scoring eight goals against them – more than any other team in his career. However, with his recent dip in form, Guardiola may consider making a change in attack. Omar Marmoush could be an option, while Kevin De Bruyne may also be recalled to the starting XI. Erling Haaland will lead the line and the Norwegian also has a good record against Brighton – having been directly involved in five goals in four games against Brighton in the Premier League.

Manchester City probable starting lineup:

Ederson; Lewis, Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol; Gonzalez, Gundogan; Savinho, Marmoush/ Kevin De Bruyne, Doku; Haaland

Brighton Injury News

Brighton are in red-hot form, winning their last six games in all competitions, including four straight victories in the Premier League. Brighton have knocked out Newcastle and Chelsea in the FA Cup and secured dominant league wins over Fulham and Bournemouth. Striker Joao Pedro has been in great form scoring in each of his last three league games.

However, they will still be without Ferdi Kadioglu (toe), Igor Julio (thigh), James Milner (hamstring), and Jason Steele (shoulder). There is some positive news as captain Lewis Dunk (rib), Joel Veltman (knock), and Matt O’Riley (knee) are nearing a return and the trio will be assessed before kickoff.

Tariq Lamptey is available again after serving a one-match suspension last weekend and could return to the starting lineup at right-back.

Brighton & Hove Albion probable starting lineup:

Verbruggen; Lamptey, Van Hecke, Webster, Estupinan; Hinshelwood, Baleba; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Pedro
