From Ronaldo’s Record-Breaking Feats to Eusébio’s Legacy: Portugal’s Greatest Scorers

Portugal Football has seen plenty of quality goal scorers play for the red jersey over the years. However, Cristiano Ronaldo’s impact on the charts is rising to almost unmatchable. Some more great names like Eusebio and Luis Figo also appear on the all-time list.

Having made his debut in 2003, Ronaldo’s longevity has taken him above the horizon not only for his nation but at the global stage. Leading the all-time international list, the 40-year-old is still a usual contributor in all competitions.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Portugal’s Unmatched Scoring Legend

From Eusébio to Pauleta, the Portuguese have had a significant amount of good strikers since the 90s.

On March 5, 2014, during a friendly match against Cameroon, Ronaldo surpassed Pauleta’s goal record for Portugal. Ronaldo scored twice in Portugal’s 5-1 victory, bringing his international goal tally to 49. This achievement surpassed Pauleta’s previous record of 47 goals.

Ronaldo’s Record-Breaking Milestone: The 100th Goal

Ronaldo etched his name in history on September 8, 2020, when he scored his 100th goal for Portugal. This remarkable achievement came during a crucial UEFA Nations League match against Sweden.

The former Real Madrid man has 85 goals for Portugal since turning 30 as it beats most of the strikers’ all-time tally. He will be keen to get to the 100-goal mark as 15 goals remain for the achievement.

Emerging players like Gonçalo Ramos, Joao Felix and Rafael Leão playing alongside Ronaldo take huge examples. However, the figures the 40-year-old is expected to leave will be a huge mountain to climb for the upcoming generations of Portuguese football.

Ronaldo will play which is possibly his final Nations League game in the 2025 final against Spain. Being a contributor in the semi-final he will look to add to his tally as he keeps rising on the charts.
