Let’s dive into their head-to-head and see who holds the edge.

Patrick Mahomes vs. Jalen Hurts Head-to-Head Record in the Regular Season?

The two superstars have crossed paths twice in the regular season, 1-1. Mahomes got the upper hand first, back on October 3, 2021, when his Chiefs beat Hurts’ Eagles 42-30. Mahomes was razor sharp that night, completing 24 of 30 passes for 278 yards and tossing five touchdowns despite one interception. Hurts, though in a losing effort, showed his dual-threat potential with 387 passing yards, two touchdowns, and 47 rushing yards.

Hurts evened the score in their rematch on November 20, 2023, guiding the Eagles to a 21-17 win. His stat line was modest through the air with 150 yards with no touchdowns and a pick. But he bruised the Chiefs’ defense on the ground, punching in two rushing scores. Mahomes struggled under pressure, completing just 24 of 43 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. That game leveled their regular-season rivalry at one win apiece.

When you zoom out, Mahomes holds the statistical edge in his career with a 66.6% completion rate, over 32,000 passing yards, and 246 touchdowns to Hurts’ 148 touchdowns. He’s also collected six Pro Bowl nods, three All-Pro selections, and two MVPs. Hurts, however, is not far behind with a 64.6% completion rate and has carved out his own reputation with his legs, piling up nearly 3,200 rushing yards and 57 rushing touchdowns, already one of the best rushing resumes for a quarterback in league history.

Patrick Mahomes vs. Jalen Hurts Head-to-Head Record in the Postseason?

On the biggest stage, the quarterbacks have also split their clashes, sitting 1-1 in Super Bowls. Their first postseason clash came in Super Bowl LVII (Feb. 12, 2023), a classic that went down to the wire. Mahomes, battling an ankle injury, delivered a clutch performance with 182 passing yards and three touchdowns, adding 44 rushing yards. Hurts nearly stole the show, throwing for 304 yards and a touchdown while adding an incredible 70 rushing yards and three rushing scores. Still, Chiefs edged out the Eagles, narrowly, 38-35.

Hurts most recently got his redemption in Super Bowl LIX (Feb. 9, 2025). The Eagles rolled past Kansas City 40-22, and Hurts was dynamic again with 221 passing yards, two touchdowns, plus 72 rushing yards and another score. Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns but had two interceptions and was sacked six times as Philadelphia’s defense smothered him. That leveled their postseason rivalry at one each.

Mahomes’ playoff game remains unmatched, with three championships, three Super Bowl MVPs, and a sparkling 89-24 career record. But Hurts has proven he can match Mahomes punch-for-punch when the stakes are highest, with a playoff mark of his own that now includes a championship, one MVP and two Pro Bowl honors.

The Philadelphia Eagles visit the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2 on Sunday, September 14, for their first meeting since that 40-22 Super Bowl LIX stunner. With bragging rights and momentum on the line, this rematch could tilt the balance in one of the NFL’s most compelling quarterback rivalries.

But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
