Pascal Siakam Engages In Heated Exchange With Reporter After Pacers Suffer Game 5 Loss to Knicks

Pascal Siakam engaged in a tense exchange with a reporter after the Indiana Pacers suffered a 111-94 loss to the New York Knicks. On Thursday, May 29, the Pacers traveled to New York with an aim to wrap the Eastern Conference Finals series in Game 5. However, the Knicks displayed grit and forced Game 6, owing to Jalen Brunson’s 32 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Pascal Siakam was visibly frustrated with the defeat, particularly with the lack of effort from his teammates. His frustration came out during the post-game conference where he engaged in a weird interaction with a reporter. A reporter asked Siakam, “How is it possible not to fight hard enough in a game?” The question didn’t sit well with Siakam and he came up with a blunt response.

The 2019 champion said, “What are you talking about? They played harder than us. It’s okay. We played hard, but they played harder. What’s your point? I don’t get it.” The reporter then tried to clarify what he meant, but the Pacers star remained unfazed and maintained his stance. He told the reporter that this is what happens in a game and it is what basketball is.

He responded, “That’s what happens in the game, though. That’s basketball. You good, bro? You’re looking for something I know, but damn. I told you. What else do you want me to tell you? What about you tell me? So, go ahead. Who’s this guy? What’s your name, bro?” Notably, Siakam came up with the second-highest score for his team as he dropped 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Indiana Pacers’ star guard Tyrese Haliburton ensured that there is no need to panic as they are determined to make a comeback in the series. Notably, Indiana came up with their worst offensive game this postseason, which led to their defeat on Thursday night. Haliburton, who dropped a historic triple-double in the previous game, could manage to fetch only eight points, while having two rebounds, and six assists.

However, despite the loss, the Pacers will respond after things didn’t go the way they wanted them to go. Addressing the media after the loss, he said, “We’re a resilient group. We always want to respond when things don’t go well after a game like that. We understand what the stakes are. … We’re fine. There’s no need to panic or anything.”

Despite their loss on Thursday, the Pacers are still leading the series 3-2. In Game 6, they will host the Knicks on Saturday, May 31 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and will avoid Game 7 at any cost.
