‘Overpaid’ and ‘Not Reliable’: Yankees Fans Rip Into Carlos Rodon After Another Letdown

In frigid Detroit conditions that would send most running for thermal gear, Carlos Rodon stood defiantly on the mound in short sleeves, the temperature hovering at 38 degrees with wind chills plummeting into the 20s as snow flurries danced in the air. Yet Monday’s game would prove that Rodon’s most formidable opponent wasn’t the biting cold, the Tigers lineup, questionable calls, or even his defense – it was the demons within.

What began as a promising outing unraveled spectacularly in the third inning when Rodon’s control abandoned him at the worst possible moment. The left-hander inexplicably issued back-to-back walks to Detroit’s 8th and 9th hitters – the statistical underbelly of an already modest Tigers lineup.

While Rodon visibly seethed over the strike zone on the second walk, the damage was already done and was maybe done wrong by the umpire, his frustration boiled over just moments later when he misplaced a changeup that was promptly launched for a devastating three-run homer, effectively burying the Yankees in what would become a 6-2 defeat at Comerica Park.

“I’m definitely tired of walking people,” a dejected Carlos Rodon confessed afterward, acknowledging the nine walks he’s surrendered through just three starts this season. “It’s frustrating. I don’t want to give up free bases.”

The Yankees faithful, however, appear to have exhausted their patience with the $162 million man. Social media erupted with scathing criticism as fans vented their mounting disappointment.

“I’m sick of the Carlos Rodon experience,” one exasperated fan posted. Another supporter didn’t mince words about Rodon’s contract: “You walk the 8 and 9 hitters and then give up a 3-run bomb. Carlos Rodon is the worst and it’s unbelievable we gave this guy 6 years 162 million.”

The sentiment echoed across Yankee Nation: “You walk the 8-9 hitters, that’s what you get.”
