Olivier Giroud to Depart LAFC After June 29 Clash Against Vancouver

Olivier Giroud’s time in Major League Soccer is coming to an end, with LAFC officially announcing that the club and the veteran forward have mutually agreed to part ways. Giroud’s final appearance for the Black & Gold will come on Sunday, June 29, when LAFC host Vancouver Whitecaps at BMO Stadium.

The 38-year-old joined LAFC in May 2024 after leaving AC Milan, bringing a wealth of experience and a storied career to the United States. During his brief but impactful spell in Los Angeles, Giroud made 20 appearances in the regular season, contributing three goals and four assists. His presence added depth and leadership to LAFC’s frontline, and he played a key role in the club’s success in various competitions.

Short But Impactful Spell in Los Angeles

Giroud scored his first goal for LAFC in the 2024 Leagues Cup final, helping the team reach the final stage of the tournament. He also found the net in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final, a significant moment as LAFC lifted their first-ever Open Cup trophy. His influence extended beyond the pitch as he was widely regarded as a leader and a mentor within the squad, earning praise from club officials for his professionalism and winning mentality.

Although his time in MLS was short, it marked another chapter in what has been an extraordinary career. Giroud’s club career has spanned nearly two decades, with spells at Montpellier, Arsenal, Chelsea, and AC Milan. Across more than 700 club matches, he has scored close to 300 goals and lifted 11 major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and domestic league titles.

A Fitting Farewell for a French Legend

Internationally, Giroud remains the all-time top scorer for France with 57 goals. Alongside LAFC teammate Hugo Lloris, he helped lead France to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 UEFA Nations League, while also reaching the finals of Euro 2016 and the 2022 World Cup.

As Giroud prepares for his final LAFC appearance, the club and its supporters will bid farewell to one of football’s modern greats.
