The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to play the Los Angeles Lakers and it will only be the second time that these two teams have faced in the 2025 season so far. The Thunder are currently the best team in the NBA, no matter the division. However, the Houston Rocket (2nd seed in the West) pulled off a huge upset recently by defeating the Thunder and ending the Thunder’s hope to achieve 70 wins in the regular season. Meanwhile the L.A Lakers are still trying to hold on to the third seed in the West and are coming off a win against the Pelicans.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are having a season for the ages. After a disappointing end to their season last year, losing against the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Semi-Finals, they have bounced back in the 2024-25 season and have dominated the NBA. The Thunder acquired Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein in the offseason and with their addition the Thunder currently have the best defensive rating in the league with 106.2. They have cruised through the regular season with an excellent record of 64-13, and they also have the current MVP front runner in Shai Gilgeous Alexander. SGA has been lights out this season averaging 32.6 points, 6.4 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 51.9 percent from the field.

The Thunder have looked unstoppable and with the way they have played this season, and anything short of a championship would be a disappointment for the team. They are the heavy favorites to win the west, and no team would want to face them going into the postseason.
The Los Angeles Lakers have had quite a ride, as they acquired Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks midway through the season. Rookie head coach JJ Redick is doing an excellent job coaching the Lakers and has helped the team significantly improve their seeding from last season. Lebron James is still doing what he does best and has continued to defy what a 40-year old basketball player should look like. Their guard Austin Reaves’ emergence as one of, if not, the best third options in the league has been the story for the purple and gold. The way Reaves has been playing this season has been nothing short of amazing averaging 20.2 points per game.
While the Lakers are not the best team in the Western Conference and there are still questions about their lack of ‘bigs.’ The sheer fact that Lebron James and Luka Doncic are on the same team, makes them a team to watch going into the playoffs.
Jaylin Williams will not play tonight against the Lakers as he is still recovering from a left ankle sprain. Ousmane Dieng and Alex Ducas will also not be available tonight as they are dealing with left calf and left quad strains, respectively. Guard Ajay Mitchell is also listed as “out,” for the game against the Lakers, alongside Nikola Topic who’s dealing with a left knee injury.
Maxi Kleber has yet to play a single game for the purple and gold, and that will continue as he is listed as “out,” for tonight’s game against the Thunder . Meanwhile Lakers’ superstar Lebron James is listed as “probable,” for tonight’s game against the Thunder as he is dealing with a left groin strain that has been bothering him for a long time.
