The OKC Thunder entered the NBA Finals for the first time in 13 years. This serves as a huge achievement for the young side, which has slowly risen organically. The Thunder also remains one of the few sides in the history of the NBA to qualify for the finals without being in the luxury tax category.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led his side to a monumental performance throughout the NBA Playoffs this season. He also won the MVP award this season, becoming only the third OKC player to achieve such a feat. He was also named the Conference Finals and NBA Finals MVP. How Many NBA Finals Have the OKC Thunder Been To?

The Oklahoma City Thunder, as a franchise, have made two NBA Finals appearance since relocating from Seattle. However, including their history as the Seattle SuperSonics, the franchise has four Finals appearances in total.

Their first NBA Finals’ appearance occurred in the 1977-78 season after they beat the Portland Trail Blazers by 4-2 in the WCF. The second appearance came next season with the same opponent, the Washington Bullets. However, a brief gap took place before they won the Western Conference again.

As the Seattle SuperSonics, they faced Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls in the 1996 NBA Finals. Again, they went through a rough patch, taking them almost two decades to reach the finals. A renewed organization brought renewed hope as the OKC Thunder faced the Miami Heat in the 2011-12 NBA Finals.

Across all Finals games under the franchise umbrella, including their Supersonics history, the Thunder has a challenging win-loss record when it comes to the NBA Finals. In totality, they have played 30 games in the finals, out of which they managed 14 wins and 13 losses.

They have an NBA Finals winning percentage of more than 50%. Among all those appearances, the franchise (with the name Seattle SuperSonics and current one) managed to win the NBA championship twice in 1978 and 2025. In most of their NBA Finals’ appearances, they have been an underdog. However, this time around in 2025, the Thunder entered the NBA Finals being outright favorites against the Indiana Pacers.
