The pair will meet for the 9th time in their career in Miami.
Novak Djokovic is set to take on the elegant Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the 2025 Miami Open Round of 16. Djokovic, who is aiming to bounce back after his Indian Wells disappointment, has started strong in Miami and is yet to drop a set. His Round-3 win also saw him overtake Rafael Nadal to become the player with most Masters-1000 victories (411).
Looking at his opponent, Musetti has had Djokovic’s number in the past. The 23-year-old battled past Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6 6-2 6-3 in Round-3 to book his spot to face Nole. Musetti has also had a below par start to his 2025 season – failing to reach a single quarterfinal since the Australian Open. Who will emerge victorious in this clash?
“There’s always something on the line pretty much every time I play, and of course that motivates me to do well at tournaments,” Djokovic claimed after beating Camilo Ugo Carabelli in Round-3. However, the Serbian acknowledges that some records like the most weeks at No. 1 as well as most titles on tour are not what he is chasing at this stage of his career.
Novak Djokovic leads the head-to-head battle against Lorenzo Musetti 7-1.
The Serbian icon has a big upper hand in the duel with Musetti, as is the case with most of his opponents. Musetti’s solitary victory came in 2023 at the Monte Carlo Masters. The first ever encounter between the pair was perhaps the best of the lot – the Djoker fought back from two sets down before Musetti was forced to retire in the deciding set.

Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti have met thrice at the Grand Slam level, thrice at the Masters level, and also at the Olympics. As a result, the stakes have always been high in this clash, and Miami will be no less. It will be intriguing to see how Musetti approaches the match, considering his past horrors while facing the 24-time major winner.

Novak Djokovic starts as the firm favourite in this highly anticipated match-up, and we predict nothing different. Although the Italian could pose some threat if his backhand clicks, the 37-year-old ideally should come through. With the courts playing slow in nature, Djokovic will make full use of the array of shots in his weaponry.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic in three sets.
