Djokovic has won the last 2 matches against de Minaur
Play on Centre Court for day 8 of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships will start with the seven-time Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic facing Alex de Minaur in this round of 16 clash. With a potential quarterfinal against either Marin Cilic or Flavio Cobolli looming, here is a look at the preview for today’s match between Djokovic and de Minaur.
Recently, Djokovic has been playing at a high level once again. Prior to Wimbledon, he made the final at the Geneva Open and reached the semis at Roland Garros. The 6th seed is coming off his 100th win at the All England Club. That puts him in elite company with only Roger Federer on the men’s side as the other exclusive member. An all-court player that he is, grass has always suited the Serb’s game, and this year looks no different.
Heading into today’s match, Djokovic has looked in fine form, reaching this stage without breaking too much of a sweat. In fact, even though he dropped a set in the first round against Alexandre Müller, the Serb has come through in straight sets against Dan Evans and Miomir Kecmanovic in the second and third rounds respectively.

The Australian had hit a bit of a rough patch prior to his run at Wimbledon. He lost in the round of 16 at the Italian Open, the second round of Roland Garros, and in his first match at Queens. However, on the grass courts of Wimbledon, de Minaur has also dropped just one set in his three matches thus far.
The 11th seed won comfortably in straight sets against Roberto Carballes Baena in his first round, followed by a four-set win over Arthur Cazaux in round two, and another straight sets win over August Holmgren in the previous round.

The Serb holds a 3-1 lead over his opponent in their head-to-head matchup. Djokovic has won the last two matches after the pair split their first two encounters. However, it is essential to note that their last match was supposed to be at the quarterfinals stage in Wimbledon in 2024, but de Minaur had to pull out.
Overall, though, the experience and the counterpunching style of Djokovic hand him the edge in this match. From his three matches at Wimbledon this year, he has won 97% of his service games, which just goes to show how difficult he will be to break.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
