Nikola Jokic creates NBA history in Denver Nuggets’ win against Mavericks

Nikola Jokic completed his 146th career triple-double late in the third quarter.

Denver Nuggets star, Nikola Jokic made NBA history during a 118-99 win over Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. The three-time NBA MVP scored a triple-double and Denver extended their winning streak to four matches.

Nikola Jokic made a slick pass during the second quarter to become the fastest player to reach 15,000 points, 7,500 rebounds and 5,000 assists. The Serbian superstar accomplished the feat in just 709 games. He broke the record of Larry Bird who took 799 games to complete this milestone.

Nikola Jokic joined NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only other center to record 5000 assists. He entered this fixture with 4,992 career assists and with 8th assist in third quarter, he also reached a triple-double.

Nikola Jokic completed his 146th career triple-double late in the third quarter. He scored 10 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. The 2023 NBA Champion is averaging a career-high 31.2 points, 13.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game. The Denver Nuggets star is in the mix for MVP honor again this season.

Jokic dropped his second straight triple-double after missing Denver’s previous two games due to an illness. The three-time Kia MVP’s 145th triple-double also set a record. Nikola Jokic and Russell Westbrook became the first teammates in NBA history to have triple-doubles in the same game multiple times in a single season. Westbrook posted his 202nd career triple-double to rout the Mavericks in the first game of the road trip.

Jamal Murray was the top performer for the Nuggets with a season-high 45 points and six assists. Michael Porter Jr. added 13 points. Nuggets had a 71-45 lead at halftime and Dallas failed to draw any comeback. Jokic’s rim deterrence and rebounding were notable on Tuesday night.
