NFL Sunday Games Week 14 Key Takeaways and Results – Jaguars Defeat Colts, Bills Overcome Bengals, Steelers Hold Ravens, and Packers Get Big Win Over Bears

Devavrat Kulkarni

NFL Sunday games in Week 14 brought about plenty of excitement with several key clashes having postseason implications. Both conferences have teams clammering up to make the playoffs, and one win or loss will have severe consequences going forward. That said, here is a look at the results and key takeaways of the NFL Sunday games from Week 14.

Colts Lose Third Straight As Daniel Jones

The Indianapolis Colts’ downfall continues with their third straight loss of the season after starting 8-2 with a spot in the playoffs looking like a sure shot. This matchup against the Jaguars was a critical one at this juncture of the season, with the top two teams from the AFC South facing one another.

The Colts’ troubles started early on as quarterback Daniel Jones went down with an Achilles tear that could keep him on the sidelines for the rest of the season. Backup quarterback Riley Leonard had 145 passing yards and an interception, while running back Jonathan Taylor was held to 74 yards and a touchdown.

Trevor Lawrence had 244 yards and a couple of touchdown passes, while Travis Etienne Jr. joined the party with 2 touchdown runs and 74 yards on the ground as the Jaguars earned a massive 36-19 victory.

Josh Allen Super Show and Fourth Quarter Surge Downs Joe Burrow and the Bengals

A highly anticipated AFC showdown between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals did not disappoint as the two teams combined for 73 points. Cincinnati started the game strong with Burrow leading the team to 3 touchdown drives in the opening 3 drives. Taking a 21-11 lead at the half, the Bengals were in control until the fourth quarter when it all fell apart.

Josh Allen led a last-quarter comeback yet again as Buffalo went down 28-18 before going on to score three touchdowns. Allen finished the game with 251 passing yards, 3 touchdowns through the air, as well as 78 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Meanwhile, the loss to Buffalo hands the Bengals their 9th loss of the season, putting a severe dent in their playoff chances. Burrow had 4 touchdown passes and 284 passing yards, but also threw 2 picks in the process. Tee Higgins had 92 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Bills, however, shut down the Bengals’ run game and proceeded to a 39-34 win.

Steelers Move to One Game Ahead in the AFC North with Win Over Ravens

The Steelers vs Ravens was yet another divisional battle for the top spot. Locked at 6-6, the winner of the game would assume a one-game lead at the top, and that is exactly where the Steelers find themselves after a 27-22 win.

DK Metcalf had a massive game, catching 7 passes for 148 yards, and Aaron Rodgers had 284 yards and a touchdown, while also running in for another score. Lamar Jackson could complete only 19 of his 35 pass attempts for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception, while Derrick Henry had 94 yards rushing, and Zay Flowers added 8 receptions for 124 yards.

Bears Fall from NFC Number 1 Seed to Number 7 after Loss to the Packers

The state of the NFC is such that the 9-4 Bears fell from the top spot in the conference all the way to the 7th spot following the loss to the Packers. Green Bay, meanwhile, has climbed up four spots as its 28-21 win now puts them as the current number 2 seed behind the Los Angeles Rams.

Jordan Love led from the front with a 234-yard, 3-touchdown performance, and was aided by Josh Jacobs’ 86 yards on the ground and a touchdown, while wide receiver Christian Watson was the best receiver with 89 yards and a pair of touchdown grabs.

Texans Defeat Chiefs in a Crucial SNF Clash

The Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Houston Texans in a critical game that could have huge implications for the postseason. This Sunday Night Football (SNF) matchup was dominated by the defense from both teams as the Texans earned a much-needed 20-1o win.

Patrick Mahomes had one of his worst performances of his career, going 14 of 33 for just 160 yards, no touchdowns, and 3 interceptions for a passer rating of 19.8. Kansas City came into the game without both its starting tackles as well as a starting guard. They also lost their backup tackle, Wanya Morris, on the very first play of the game.

Taking advantage of the depleted O-line, the Texans’ defense made life miserable for Mahomes, which was further complicated by receivers not catching balls on critical plays. C.J. Stroud finished with 203 yards and a touchdown, and Nico Collins completed 4 catches for 121 yards.

After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
