The Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2025-26 NFL season was a mixed bag. The Steelers made the postseason after a Week 18 win over divisional rivals, the Ravens, helping them to clinch the AFC North.
The 2025 NFL offseason began with question marks as to who would start under center. Pittsburgh was able to get a deal done with free agent and 4-time league MVP, Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers also signed former Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, but traded away George Pickens to the Cowboys.
With an average of 23.4 points per game, the Steelers’ offense was pretty ordinary throughout the season. Despite a great start, winning the first 4 of their 5 games, the rest of the season was pretty mediocre. The defense started out well, but injuries and other factors led to a significant drop off.
The Steelers lost in the Wild Card round for the third year running and for the 5th time in the last 6 seasons. As a result of continuous failures, head coach Mike Tomlin stepped down following the loss. Pittsburgh has now hired former Packers and Cowboys’ head coach Mike McCarthy to lead the Steel City back to its glory days.
After finishing the previous season with 10 wins and 7 losses, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to win under 9 games in the upcoming 2026-27 NFL season, as per the odds via DraftKings.
The table below shows the Over/Under for the Steelers’ total wins in the upcoming regular season.
| Pittsburgh Steelers 2026-27 regular season wins | |
| Over 8.5 | +100 |
| Under 8.5 | -120 |
Understanding how to bet on NFL games is crucial for maximizing the value of our expert picks and making informed wagers each week.
As was the case last season, the Steelers are once again facing the question of who will start under center for the upcoming season. Having signed a one-year deal, Aaron Rodgers is a free agent once again, and his future is unclear.
Pittsburgh was one of the worst teams on pass defense last year, and if they are to make a push for the postseason, they will need to address this concern in the offseason.
Further, the Steelers are already in a tight division with both the Ravens and Bengals offering a tough fight for the division crown. One advantage of sorts is the fact that they have the 19th most difficult schedule, which is not too bad.
Here is a look at the list of opponents for the Pittsburgh Steelers for the upcoming 2026-27 NFL season.
Apart from the fact that the Ravens and Bengals will pose a serious challenge, Pittsburgh will also face 6 teams that made the postseason last time around. With a fresh new start scheme-wise and a possible new starting quarterback, the Steelers may take time to get going.
Add to that the AFC North division and its tough competition, along with a challenging schedule, and Pittsburgh could find itself missing out on a playoff spot.
Early prediction: Steelers 2026-27 regular season record: 9-8

The news on the injury front for the Pittsburgh Steelers is that offensive tackle Broderick Jones is a massive question mark for training camp. The third-year tackle suffered a neck injury late in the 2025 NFL season and underwent spinal fusion surgery in December. He continues to show good progress and is in line to recover by training camp in July, but nothing is certain.
Other than Jones, the Steelers have several players with niggling injuries, especially on the defensive line and the secondary. That being said, none of them are major causes of concern, and players like safety DeShon Elliott, cornerback Cory Trice Jr., and others are expected to be back ahead of training camp.
The biggest question mark for the Steelers when it comes to their roster is that of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The 4-time MVP is once again a free agent, and his future remains unclear.
If Rodgers does decide to come back for another year, the Steelers remain frontrunners for his signature, but again, there is no clarity at the moment. In the event that Rodgers doesn’t return, the Steelers currently have Mason Rudolph and Will Howard as their 2 signal callers on the roster.
Additionally, the Steelers need to address the cornerback 2 position alongside Joey Porter Jr. While they still have Jalen Ramsey, there was a noticeable decline in performance. Further, guard Isaac Seumalo is now with the Arizona Cardinals, while tight end Jonnu Smith is a free agent. Pittsburgh will need to look for its replacements as well as other free agents on the roster.
Currently, the Steelers hold as many as 12 draft picks in the upcoming 2026 NFL draft. Having made the playoffs last season, Pittsburgh’s first-round pick will come in the 21st spot. From there on, they have the number 53 overall pick in the second round, followed by three selections in round three, and many more through rounds 4-7.
The quarterback could be the main concern for the Steelers, but it is highly unlikely they will find one for the long haul in this draft. Defensive issues mean the Steelers will need to focus on the secondary, especially at the corner position, as well as strengthening the interior defensive line.
There are plenty of changes happening in the Steel City for the upcoming season, starting with the coaching change at the top. How this team handles the new regime will be interesting to see as the new season gets underway in September.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
