On Tuesday, August 5, the New York Liberty (18-10) will host the Dallas Wings (8-21) in a WNBA regular-season affair. The Liberty is barely holding on to the second rank, whereas the Wings have “improved” slightly to the 11th position.
The Liberty defeated the Connecticut Sun 88-78 as Sabrina Ionescu exploded for 36 points. It ended a four-game losing streak as 2x champion Emma Messeman scored 11 points in her Liberty debut.
On the other hand, the Wings enter the game after a familiar 78-88 loss against the Indiana Fever despite Paige Bueckers’ 22 (7/14). The rest of the starters shot 8/26 for just 25 points combined.

New York Liberty
Liberty Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Sabrina Ionescu | PG: Natasha Cloud | SG/SF: Leoni Fiebich | PF: Emma Meeseman | C: Jonquel Jones
Key bench players: SG: Rebekah Gardner, SG: Marinne Johannes, PF: Isabelle Harrison, SF: Stephanie Talbot.
Injuries/Updates: Breanna Stewart is OUT with NO TIMETABLE to return. Kennedy Burke and Nyara Sabally are expected to be back by mid-August.
The Liberty used to be the best defensive team when they hit the 9-game winning streak. Their impact has been significantly reduced, especially with Stewart out. They have given up 90+ in many games lately.
On the other hand, they are highly prone on the defensive end but have improved somewhat. They gave up 90+ consistently before, but have cut it to 85+ or so recently. Offensively, the Liberty are better than the Wings, but not having Stewart has surely hurt them.
The Wings are exclusively Bueckers-charged at times, which has caused massive scoring fluctuations. At any rate, I expect the score to go “Over” here.
Total: Over 176.5 for -110 at BetMGM
Here is an overview of my selections
| Picks | BetMGM Odds |
| Total O 176.5 | -110 |
| Spread- Liberty -10.5 | -110 |
| Sabrina Ionescu O 22.5 Points | -120 |
| Money Line- Liberty | -600 |
Sabrina Ionescu O 20.5 Points: Ionescu has truly upped he game in the absence of Stewart. She is averaging 19.8 PPG but has put up 29 or more in four of five games (22+ in five of last five).
Paige Bueckers U 17.5 Points: Bueckers is averaging an astounding 18.5 PPG as a rookie. She has scored 20 or more in three straight, but I see NY containing her under 17.
Jonquel Jones O 15.5 Points: The Liberty center has been averaging 16.7 PPG over the last seven games. I expect her to score at least 16 here.
Main pick: Sabrina Ionescu O 22.5 points for -120 at BetMGM
The Liberty is going through another difficult period, but Ionescu’s form and Messeman’s inclusion can help them overcome Stewart’s absence. The Wings have been miserable all season long, but Bueckers has given them some hope now and then.
At any rate, the Liberty remains the overwhelming favorite despite their troubles. I expect them to cover the spread against a vulnerable Wings.
Spread/Money Line Pick: Spread: Liberty -10.5 for -110 at BetMGM
