The Knicks are exhausted
The Knicks come into this game after suffering a 16-point loss against the Los Angeles Lakers, despite a 26-point performance by Josh Hart. This was an inexcusable loss because the Lakers were without Anthony Davis, and Karl-Anthony Towns could only score 11 points against the much-improved Lakers’ defense. Meanwhile, apart from an L in the column, the defeat brought further misery as OG Anunoby got injured. While he doesn’t have a serious injury, the Knicks’ starters play a ton of minutes which is showing after 40-odd games. The trio of Anunoby, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges are among the three in the top-ten minutes per game list. However, the Knicks just went on a five-game winning streak and have a firm hand over the 3rd seed in the East while closing in toward the 2nd so they are in a comfortable position overall.
The Rockets are having a Cinderella season
The Rockets enter the affair after a 12-point defeat against the Brooklyn Nets in one of the most unexpected losses of the season. They have lost two in a row but had gone on a four-game winning streak before that. It wasn’t a coincidence that they lost both the games without their all-around center Alperen Sengun. He has accumulated 19.1 points (2nd most behind Jalen Green), 10 RPG(1st in team), and five assists(second behind Fred Van Vleet) per game. He has helped them become the best rebounding team in tandem with Amen Thompson in the lineup as they have tallied 47.9 rebounds per game(1st). Overall, despite Sengun’s brief absence, the Rockets have plenty to cheer about as the second-ranked team in the tough West.

The Knicks looked out–of-sync against the Lakers but it had a lot to do with the latter’s improved defense. Meanwhile, the Rockets have also looked a shell of themselves without Alperen Sengun. However, they can’t be underestimated because of their terrific depth which was in full display during the clutch loss against the Grizzlies.
The Knicks play a slow style(26th in pace) of the game with elaborate post-ups, pick-and-pop, cutting, and isolation set-ups. The Rockets can adjust to both fast and slow-paced styles so we are in for a close game. The total can be 223-236 range but the midseason NBA is in full flow, and the bookmakers’ speculations are being tossed aside too often.

nba Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
