The New York Knicks came into the series as the third seed in the East, into the playoffs, and their playoff experience over the Pistons clearly showed. Jalen Brunson led the way for the Knicks with his scoring and ended up with 34 points, 8 assists, on 44.4 percent shooting from the field, and shot 40% from the beyond the arc. While the Pistons were close the entire game, Knicks’ guard Cameron Payne came off the bench, and immediately torched the Pistons with his scoring as he finished the game with 14 points in 15 minutes. Karl Anthony Towns also played a huge role in securing the win for the Knicks as he dropped 23 points and grabbed 11 boards. The Knicks clearly looked like the superior team between the two, and as of this moment, the Knicks looks like they could win the series in 5 or 6 games.

The Detroit Pistons came into the first of the playoffs as the sixth seed in the East, and after struggling for years, the Pistons finally entered the playoffs with their current group. In the first game of the series, the Pistons played well for the first three quarters of the game. However, the Pistons’ lack of inexperience showed in the fourth quarter as they allowed the opposition to score 40 points. Their star Cade Cunningham did not have the best of either as he dropped 21 points on 38.1 percent shooting from the field, and shot 25.0 percent from beyond the arc. The Pistons just cannot give up 40 points in a quarter, as that could result in them going home after the very first round of the playoffs.
With Game 2 starting tonight, the Pistons need to get a win in Madison Square Garden to tie the series at 1-1. However if the Pistons lose, they will go back home and all the pressure will be on them to win both the home game matches at Detroit.
The Pistons are missing one of the essential pieces in Jaden Ivey who could put up points on the board in a hurry. Ivey is currently out and will not return anytime soon as he’s dealing with a left fibula fracture. Another big blow to the Pistons is if Isaiah Stewart misses tonight’s game as he is listed as questionable and is dealing with a right knee inflammation.
Everything is going right for the Knicks as they have nobody listed on the injury report.
