The NBA revealed the list of the finalists for each of its seven individual awards for the regular season.
Two days after the 2024-25 playoffs action got underway, the NBA revealed the list of the finalists for each of its seven individual awards for the regular season. The league honors the top performers of a season by presenting them with the NBA Awards across multiple categories. For the ongoing season, Milwaukee Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokunmpo joined Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver’s Nikola Jokic for the NBA MVP Award.
Nikola, the reigning MVP, is in pursuit of his fourth award in the last five seasons. The Joker led the Nuggets across all the categories and finished with a triple-double average of 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.0 assists per game this season. He finished third in overall scorers’ list trailing his fellow MVP finalists. On the other hand, the Thunder star is the lead scorer, and recorded an average of 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 6.4 assists.
Apart from them, Antetokounmpo finished the season as the second-highest scorer with an average of 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds. He finished in the top four in MVP voting for seven consecutive seasons, including winning the award in 2019 and 2020.
For the Defensive Player of the Year Award, the NBA has named Cleveland Cavaliers’ forward Evan Mobley as one of the finalists. He has been joined by the Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and Atlanta Hawks’ Dyson Daniels. Earlier, the San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama was considered as a favorite to win the award. However, he is now ineligible after getting ruled out for the season in February.
Cavaliers’ head coach Kenny Atkinson, Pistons’ J.B. Bickerstaff, and Ime Udoka of the Houston Rockets have been named as the finalists for the Coach of the Year Award. The Cavs won their first 15 games and finished the season with 64 victories, earning the top seed in the East. The Pistons recorded more than triple the wins from last season as they finished with a 44-38 record. The Rockets, on the other hand, booked the second seed this season with a 52-30 record after missing the play-in last year.
