The Celtics finally show their defending champion form

The Celtics had blown 20-point leads in the first two games. They had choked in the clutch and had shot 25/100 from the three-point line in these matches. Apart from that, their ace, Jayson Tatum, shot less than 30% from the field in these games. All that changed in Game 3.

The Celtics built a 25-point lead in the first half and increased it to a 26-point lead by the end of the third quarter. The Knicks had no chance of erasing the lead and finally succumbed to the pressure of a big deficit. Tatum was 8/20 from the field, nailing 5 of his 9 attempts from the three-point line.

As a team, Boston shot 20/40 from the long range, as five scorers figured in the 15-23 points range. Payton Pritchard led the way with 23 off the bench. Meanwhile, the Celtics held the Knicks to a horrid 5/23 shooting from long range.

They also kept OG Anunoby quiet as he shot just 1/6. Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford limited the dangerous Karl-Anthony Towns to a 5/18 shooting night. Overall, Boston has done a fantastic job of shutting down Knicks’ Wings Mikal Bridges and Anunoby.

The Knicks’ forwards need to come back in form, or the Celtics can steal another win on their home floor, which can shift the momentum.

The series has been low-scoring as expected. Game 3 produced 208 points, which was just two points “Over” the projected mark. Thus, the bookmakers have nailed the odds thus far as they got the exact outcome in Game 1 too, when they predicted an “Over/Under” for 212-213 points.

The Knicks have now been limited to the early 90s on two straight occasions, a testament to the Celtics’ defense. But I expect them to hit the 100-mark for the second time in the series.

The bookmakers have also increased the projected scoring range from 205-206 to 208-209. This small adjustment means a lot. But on the other hand, I see the Knicks shutting down the Celtics in Game 4. Thus, instead of opting for a total, I’ll opt for Over/Under predictions for both teams.

Jaylen Brown to be held under 21.5 points: Brown has been assigned identical odds to go over/under around the 22-point mark. He has gone “Under” in two straight games while going “Over” in Game 1. I expect him to go “Under” for the third straight game.

Karl-Anthony Towns to pull down over 11.5 rebounds: Bookmakers had been a bit conservative about KAT’s rebounding numbers for the series, as he went under on most occasions during the last series. But now he has gone for three straight games, thus they have adjusted the odds. I see him going “over” the stipulated mark again..

Jalen Brunson scoring over 27.5 points: The bookmakers have slightly brought down the stipulated points for Brunson. It is understandable since he has scored 24.3 PPG this series compared to 31.5 PPG in the previous series. I believe he will go “Over” in this game.

The Celtics have shown that they can blow out the Knicks in three straight games. They only realized their true potential in Game 3, but the Knicks are bound to make some tough adjustments.

They have a 2-1 lead and home-court advantage, which may not have meant much this playoffs but still counts for something.

I see them coming up with their most efficient scoring performance of the series while containing the Celtics in the second half, too. Even though I consider the Celtics the favorites, I expect the Knicks to cover the spread and see the game being decided in the 1-4 points range.
