Abdul Carter might be new to the NFL, but the New York Giants rookie edge rusher has already shown he won’t back down, even after being put flat on the turf. Carter, the No. 3 overall pick in April’s draft, went viral during Saturday’s preseason clash with the Jets after being knocked over on a chip block. The clip quickly spread across social media, but Carter had the last word with a fiery response.

Carter Claps Back After Viral Clip

In the second quarter, Jets tight end Stone Smartt delivered a heavy chip that sent Carter sprawling. Right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor pushed more by leaning on him as the play continued, drawing laughs online and more than 5.5 million views after the NFL’s official account posted it on X.

Carter, however, wasn’t about to let the Jets enjoy the moment unchecked. “Might be the only highlight of the Jets all season⬇️ and we put BTA. weak a** chip ate that mf like bbq.” He fired back on X, turning the viral moment into fuel.

The clapback drew mixed reactions from fans. Some applauded his swagger, while others cautioned the rookie not to get too caught up in preseason banter. But confidence has never been in short supply for Carter. From his Penn State days to his first training camp in blue, he’s carried himself like a player who expects to dominate.

And he’s backed it up on the field. Carter flashed in his preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills, logging six snaps and pressuring quarterbacks on three of them, according to NextGen Stats. Reports out of Giants camp also praised his performance in joint practices with the Jets and Panthers, where he consistently generated push off the edge.

The rivalry angle only adds more spice. While the Giants and Jets only meet once every four years in the regular season, their preseason “Snoopy Bowl” always brings energy. The Jets won their last regular-season matchup 13-10 in overtime in 2023, and Carter’s chirping has only intensified the tension between the two franchises.

One viral clip won’t define Carter’s rookie season, but his response shows exactly the type of edge the Giants hoped to get when they drafted him. If he can bring the same bite on Sundays that he shows online, Big Blue’s pass rush could be a nightmare in 2025.
