New York City Temporarily Co-Names Manhattan Streets In Honor of Knicks’ Playoffs Run

In a unique move, the mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, temporarily co-named a few streets in Manhattan after players on the Knicks’ roster for the 2024-25 season. This move came to honor all the current players in the team as the Knicks advanced to the NBA Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000. The city installed blue-and-orange street signs across 15 street corners, corresponding to the players’ jersey numbers.

In a press conference, Adams said, “On the path to a championship, we recognize the hard work and determination that has gotten this team to the Eastern Conference finals and we’re celebrating this team by temporarily co-naming our city streets so all New Yorkers can celebrate their Knicks pride.”

Notably, the Knicks finished the 2024-25 season in third position in the East with a 51-31 record. They began their playoff campaign by locking horns against the Detroit Pistons, and took them down 4-2. As they advanced to the semifinals, the reigning champions, Boston Celtics, were waiting for them. The Knicks moved past them with a 4-2 win and booked their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000. In the Conference finals, they are clashing against the Indiana Pacers.

How Will Streets in Manhattan Be Co-Named After New York Knicks’ Players?

After co-naming the streets, 6th Avenue and West 8th Street would be known as OG Anunoby Alley, while 7th Avenue and West 11th Street would be called Jalen Brunson Boulevard. Similarly, 7th Avenue and West 32nd Street has been renamed Karl-Anthony Towns Square and 7th Avenue and West 25th Street would be known as Mikal Bridges Block.

Talking about their Conference Finals’ campaign, the Knicks suffered a 138-135 OT loss to the Pacers in the series opener on Wednesday, May 21.
