New Jersey Devils Reassign Defenseman Colton White

The New Jersey Devils have reassigned Colton White, making roster changes ahead of upcoming games.

Colton White’s stint with the New Jersey Devils is on hold following 10 days on the active roster. The organization declared White’s reassignment to their AHL team, the Utica Comets. New Jersey also announced that White will participate in Team Canada for the forthcoming Spengler Cup rather than joining the Comets roster.

The 2024-25 season marks his eighth year as a professional and his sixth within the Devils organization. New Jersey selected White with the 97th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, and he has been part of the organization ever since, apart from a two-year stint with the Anaheim Ducks organization.

The majority of White’s worth is based on his physical attributes. Since the 2018-19 season, he has recorded 10 assists in 84 NHL games, along with 57 blocked shots and 65 hits. He has understandably netted more at the AHL level, achieving 17 goals and 78 points over 274 games, yet he holds a poor -69 rating for his entire career.

Being part of Team Canada’s roster for this year’s Spengler Cup marks the first international event of White’s career. He will help the Canadians in aiming for their first Spengler Cup win since the 2019 competition. The competition is set to occur from December 26th to December 31st in Davos, Switzerland.

The Devils are expected to execute a related roster change on defense following the Christmas break. They face the New York Rangers in another game tomorrow night but will desire more than six healthy defensemen on the active roster by the weekend.
