The five-and-a-half-minute security camera footage that TMZ posted showed Hayes shoving and spitting on his then girlfriend.
The Los Angeles Lakers forward Jaxson Hayes could be in trouble after the NBA announced that it is reopening its investigation following the emergence of a new video related to a domestic violence incident from 2021.
The TMZ on Saturday posted a video of the incident which involved Hayes and his then-girlfriend Sofia Jamora.
“As a result of the media report and video posted on Saturday, we are reopening our investigation.”
A league spokesperson said in a statement to the Southern California News Group on Sunday morning.
The five-and-a-half-minute security camera footage that TMZ posted, is timestamped July 28, 2021, and showed Hayes shoving and spitting on Sofia.
During the altercation, Hayes’ ex-girlfriend can be heard saying, “Stop. Let go of me,” and “I’m not going to let you hit me anymore.”
Lakers C Jaxson Hayes, as was previously reported, was involved in an altercation w/ his then-GF Sofia Jamora in July 2021.

Soon after the incident, the Los Angeles police officers showed up at Hayes’ residence and arrested the then-New Orleans star for resisting a police officer.
In June 2022, Hayes was sentenced to three years of probation, 450 hours of community service, and a year of weekly domestic violence classes after pleading no contest to two misdemeanor charges.

While the NBA didn’t take any disciplinary action then, the new video has prompted the league to reopen the investigation. If found guilty, Hayes can face suspension.
Notably, Jaxson is not the first NBA player who is being investigated for domestic violence-related incidents.
Last year, Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges was suspended for 30 games because of a 2022 domestic violence incident. However, he was later given credit for 20 games of time served after sitting out all 82 games that season.
