NBA Analyst Believes That Luka Doncic Will Torch the Timberwolves in the First Round of the Playoffs!

Eric Divakaran

The Los Angeles Lakers will face the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs. The Lakers finished the 2024-2025 season as the third seed, whereas the Minnesota Timberwolves barely made the playoffs as they finished as the 6th seed.

The Lakers went through a lot of in-season drama this year. The Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic trade is still unbelievable, but here we are. There are a lot of players who need to prove themselves in the playoffs this year, and Doncic is one of them. While the Lakers aren’t the favorite to win the finals this season, the pairing of Luka Doncic and one of the greatest player of all time in Lebron James, automatically bring in championship hopes. Now that they will face the Timberwolves, the question to be asked is if Doncic can help the Lakers get past the Timberwolves.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been a confusing team this season. Their consistency can sometimes be questioned, as we have seen them blow big leads in the regular season. The departure of Karl Anthony Towns has most definitely hurt their team, as he brought in an additional firepower when it came to their offensive weapons. Last season, the Timberwolves had no answer going up against the Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic in the Western Conference Finals. Will their fate finally change this season, now that Doncic is with the Los Angeles Lakers? Let’s find out.

Nick Wright Believes That Luka Doncic Will Put On a Show Against the Timberwolves Again

Nick Wright believes that Luka Doncic will dominate the Timberwolves once again as he said, “Luka has tortured Rudy Gobert on multiple continents.” Wright continued, “In the Olympics Slovenia against France, he’s done it. When Gobert was a Jazz, he did it. When Gobert was a Timberwolf, he did it. Hitting the step back over Gobert then cursing him out in Slovenian.”

“We saw Luka with a worse supporting cast beat this team in five to go to the finals last year. Because Luka is going to want to make Rudy Gobert cry, LeBron’s going to be able to sit back the first three quarters like he did in that Mavs game. I don’t know how you can credibly play Rudy Gobert the amount of minutes you probably want to play him. I think it is a hard-fought five games for the Lakers, maybe six, but I don’t think it’s going to be seven games cause I think Luka is gonna light this team on fire.”

The Last Time Doncic Played the Timberwolves

Last season, when Doncic played for the Mavericks, we saw him put on an absolute clinic against the Timberwolves, who were considered to be the best defensive team in the NBA. Doncic averaged 32.4 points in the Western Conference Finals last season, and the Timberwolves looked helpless against them. Rudy Gobert, who was the DPOY last season (4x DPOY overall) had no answers going up against the Slovenian and Doncic thoroughly punished the best defensive player that the Timberwolves have. While it’s true that Doncic had a another great scorer in Kyrie Irving last season, to help him win the series, we also need to remember that the Los Angeles Lakers have LeBron James, who’s considered to be one of, if not, the greatest player in the history of the NBA.

The Lakers do not have size, which is what the Dallas Mavericks had last season. However, the Lakers have a third option in Austin Reaves who’s been putting on a show lately, and is considered to be one of the best third options in the league. The pairing of Doncic, James, and Reaves, will be arguably be a much harder challenge for the Timberwolves, as the Lakers have three playmakers who can also create their own shots. Will the Timberwolves be able to take on the Lake Show? We’ll find out soon enough.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
