NBA All-Star game ratings fall by 13% – NBA considers bringing on a 1-on-1 tournament

The NBA All-Star game turned out to be another disappointing fest for the fans. Despite changes made to the All-Star format, it was the second least watched NBA All-Star game, according to Front office sports.

Multiple All-Stars in LeBron James and Anthony Edwards pulled out at the last second which was considered late for replacement. Giannis Antetokounmpo missed the All-Star game due to an injury. The new tournament format also wasn’t received well by the audience and was only rated 2.2, which is tied for the worst rating with the 2023 NBA All-Star game.

The game averaged 4.7 million viewers, which was the second lowest after the 2023 All-Star game. A fall of 13% in the viewership according to entertainment reporter Ryan Glasspiegel.

However, on the other hand WNBA has seen a humongous rise in their viewership number. A rise of 305% in their 2024 All-Star game, which has put the league on the map for multiple new revenue streams.

The NBA acted quick on the serious concerns of falling viewership and some changes are rumored to be brought on in the future All-Star games. The highlight change would be the $1 million 1-on-1 tournament, a concept copied from the Unrivaled league.
