The Washington Mystics handed Seattle Storm another blow, halting their once-promising run with a second straight defeat. After a fascinating start to the season, Storm now find themselves in trouble.

Though, the Seattle based side took a lead going into the first quarter. They outscored the home side by 21-16. However, the Washington Mystics had a reply ready in the next quarter as they outscored 24-14, taking a lead at the end of the first half.

The story remained the same in the second half as the Washington Mystics scored 20-10 in the third quarter. The Mystics vs. Storm clash quickly turned into a low-scoring, one-sided contest dominated by Washington’s defense. Few games this season have seen such low scoring from both ends, making this one stand out.

The Seattle Storm and the Mystics had another defensive grinding quarter in the last 10 minutes. The visitors won the fourth quarter by 13-9. But ultimately, the Washington Mystics beat the Seattle Storm by 69-58 on Saturday. This win takes them to the seventh position in the table.

Mystics Double Trouble Sinks Seattle Storm

Shakira Austin played her part in the Mystics vs. Storm game, scoring a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie star Sonia Citron was also on the money for the Washington Mystics with her double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Seattle Storm’s offense fell flat, with Nneka Ogwumike carrying the load as the team’s only reliable scorer. She scored 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. This defeat marked Seattle Storm’s second straight loss, causing them to slip to fifth place in the standings.

Nneka Ogwumike scored or assisted on Seattle’s first 16 points of the game, and 19 of the team’s 21 first-quarter points against Washington. Ogwumike’s 14-point first quarter matched the highest-scoring single quarter by any Storm player this season.
