After the end of grass-court season at Wimbledon, we are moving towards the third Grand Slam of the season which is the US Open. The journey to the final Grand Slam competition starts with the Mubadala Citi DC Open. It will return to the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in the Northwest section of Washington. Some top seed players in the ATP and WTA rankings are playing in Washington DC. The Tournament will end on Sunday, July 27.

What is the Mubadala Citi DC Open?

Mubadala Citi DC Open is a hard-court tennis tournament which is organized just after the Wimbledon championship. Tennis starts mark this event as the warm-up event for the US Open which is played in the same country. The tournament was once known as the Washington Open.

The first edition of the Citi DC Open in Washington was a men’s event and was held in 1969. In 2011, it was also added in the WTA calendar. The tournament was played on clay courts until 1986 and later, it was changed to hard court as the true preparation for the US Open.

The event was co-founded by John A. Harris, Donald Dell, founder of ProServ International, and Arthur Ashe, a Hall of Famer and five-time major champion in singles and doubles. Andre Agassi holds the record for most DC Open titles with five. This year, we also saw the comeback of Venus Williams at the age of 45.

What is Citi DC Open Bag policy?

The Citi DC Open is known for its policies which makes this event more professional than any ATP and WTA event. The authorities made rules and regulations for both special guests, fans and players during the event. Here are the list of items which are prohibited to the event:

Backpacks
Hard coolers or like containers
Sealed packages
Glass bottles or cans
Aerosol cans or noise-making devices
Alcohol
Outside food/beverage
Computers, laptops, or iPads
Weapons
Animals
Laser pointing devices
Any materials, items or apparel constituting unauthorized advertising or promotion
Selfie sticks and other telescopic devices
Tennis racquets (except for authorized purposes and events; ie. kids clinic, special event, etc)
Drones or other model aircrafts
Flags, banners, or signs
Any other item deemed dangerous or inappropriate by tournament staff, in their sole discretion

If anyone violates the rule, the authorities can ask for fine or even arrest the person. He or she will also be prohibited from attending future Mubadala Citi DC Open events.

What bags are permitted in the Citi DC Open?

Apart from the mentioned list, there are some exception in the prohibited items. Citi DC Open Bag policy is made clear by the authorities and they have included few items to carry in the stadiums. Here are the following items permitted to the Mubadala Citi DC Open:

Clear bags (not to exceed 12″X 12″ X 6″)
Non-clear bags (Clutch Purse) – Not to exceed 8″X 5″ X 1″
Fanny Packs – Not to exceed 8″ X 5″
