Lions’ Morice Norris sustains neck injury in Falcons clash

The Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons game ended with disturbing scenes around the Marcedes-Benz Stadium under the Friday night lights. Morice Norris sustained a severe injury that forced officials to suspend the game for the remainder.

During the first play of the fourth quarter, Morice Norris, while tackling running back Nathan Carter, sustained a head and neck injury. The corner back’s head snapped brutally backward after making contact with Carter’s leg during the tackle.

The 24-year-old remained down with the medical team rushing down the field. He was stabilized for about 20 minutes and then transported by the medical staff to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Norris, who is a second-year defender, is competing for depth in the upcoming season. He managed to record three tackles before the unfortunate injury. Morice Norris also appeared in two games as a rookie player last season after joining the Lions as an undrafted free agent.

Morice Norris Injury – Why Was the Lions vs Falcons Game Suspended?

The Lions vs Falcons game was stopped temporarily as Morice Norris continued to receive medical assistance for 20 minutes. It was after he was transported to an ambulance that the Falcons took a ceremonial snap, with QB Emory Jones holding the ball.

Both teams remained stationary on the field to allow the remaining time to run off the clock. And with little over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, officials announced that the Lions vs Falcons game was suspended. Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell and Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris came to the decision to end the game after the Morice Norris Injury.

Lions HC Dan Campbell Shares Update on Morice Norris

Dan Campbell after the game said, “Obviously thoughts and prayers with Mo Norris. We got some positive information on him when he [arrived] at the hospital. I’ll have to just leave it like that. When something like that happens, it puts things in perspective. We’re just praying for Mo.”

Campbell added, “He’s breathing. He’s talking. It’s good. He’s got some movement. Now, they’re running more tests. Man, it’s a violent game, and we love it, but when something like this happens, the silver lining is, man, the brotherhood. To see all those guys, from that team, our team, kind of come together and everybody thinking about another player means a lot.”

Since then, the Lions’ cornerback has made quite good progress, and the latest update shared by Campbell on Monday morning is much more positive: “Morice Norris is back at the Meijer Performance Center and is in concussion protocol but doing well!”
