Andreeva faces Bencic in their first career meeting
The seventh seed at this year’s Wimbledon, Mirra Andreeva, continues her fine run as she takes on Belinda Bencic on the second day of quarterfinal action today. Having already made it to the quarterfinals for the first time, both players will have one eye on the semifinals.
The Russian teenager is having an excellent season so far, winning two titles earlier in the year at Dubai and Indian Wells. However, she couldn’t get past the quarterfinals at any of her three events on clay.
Andreeva entered Wimbledon with a 1-2 record on grass, but since then, she has looked sharp as she has progressed to this stage without dropping a set. The Russian has generally been consistent on first serve, and at the net, winning nearly 70% of the points in each match. Her defensive skills have stood out in the previous matches as well.
Absolutely breathless 💨

Veteran player Belinda Bencic suffered an arm injury in May this year, which forced her to retire from the Italian Open. After aggravating the same injury, she opted out of the French Open and lost in her first and only match on grass at the Bad Homburg Open prior to Wimbledon.
She had an easy first-round win against Alycia Parks, dropping only 3 games, but then went the distance against Elsa Jacquemot and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second and third rounds, respectively. Bencic then played a solid match in the fourth round against Ekaterina Alexandrova as she converted 4 of 6 break point opportunities.
What a moment ✨

Andreeva and Bencic have never played against each other, and today’s match will mark their first-ever career meeting. As such, no player has an edge over the other with respect to recent encounters; however, the match is sure to be an exciting one, given Bencic’s overall success on grass and Andreeva’s quick rise on the women’s scene.
The match between Andreeva and Bencic is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 9th July, with the start time not before 8:30 AM ET.
The quarterfinal match between Mirra Andreeva and Belinda Bencic will be broadcast by ESPN and ESPN-2 in the US, along with streaming options such as ESPN+, Disney+, and Fubo (free trial). UK audiences can catch the action on the BBC.

nfl I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
