Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder Game 3 Lineups, Sneak Peek

The best teams stomp you in the third quarter

In Game 1, the Timberwolves had built a four-point lead by the half but out outscored by 30 points in the second half. However, the Thunder didn’t even let them breathe in Game 2.

They built an 8-point lead by the end of the first half. Then they did what the mid to late-2010s Warriors used to do. Complete third quarter annihilation.

The Thunder outplayed the Timberwolves 36-21 in the third period, and the Timberwolves couldn’t dig out of the 23-point hole. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way for the Thunder with an incredible 38-point masterpiece, committing just one turnover.

Jalen Williams also had his signature 26-point night while lanky Chet Holmgren enjoyed a 22-point effort. Overall, the Thunder committed just 6 turnovers and shot 50% from the field. A winning recipe indeed.

Meanwhile, the Thunder forced 14 turnovers and quietened down the red-hot Julius Randle (28 points in Game 1) to 6 points (2/11) and 4 turnovers in Game 2. Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels combined for 54 points, but the rest of the starters combined for 14 points.

The Timberwolves will need much more from their role players to stave off the pesky Thunder. They are unbeatable when the defensive knob is turned on the max.

The Nuggets gave them trouble because of the advantage at the center position, meanwhile, the Timberwolves lack such a prolific advantage in the middle.

Timberwolves Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Mike Conley | SG: Anthony Edwards |  SF: Jaden McDaniels | PF: Julius Randle | C: Rudy Gobert

Key bench players: SG: Nickeil Alexander-Walker, SG: Donte DiVincenzo, C: Naz Reid.

Injuries/Updates: Nothing to report as such.

Thunder Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Shai-Gilgeous Alexander | SG: Luguentz Dort | SF: Jalen Williams | SF: Chet Holmgren | C: Isaiah Hartenstein

Key bench players: SG: Cason Wallace, SG: Alex Caruso,  SG: Aaron Wiggins.

Injuries/Updates: Nothing significant to report

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder Total Over/Under Prediction- NBA Best Bets

The second game produced 221 points, which was about 5-6 points above the projections. It was a significant uptick from Game 1, which yielded 202 points. However, in both cases, the Thunder crossed 113+ points.

Meanwhile, the Timberwolves struggled to go past 100 in Game 2 while scoring just 88 in Game 1. The bookmakers have increased their points projection from mid to late 210s. I believe this time the total will fall under 215, though with both teams not crossing 107.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder Player Props Predictions- NBA Betting Picks

Julius Randle to score over 20.5 points: JR, who had hit “Over” in five straight matches (23+ points), was finally restricted to a 6-point game in the previous match. However, I see him bouncing back here.

Donte Divincenzo to dish over 2.5 assists: DDV has handed over 3 or more assists in three of the four games. I believe he will deliver over 3 helpers here.

Jalen Williams to score under 20.5 points: The Thunder Wing exploded for 26 points in Game 2, clearing the “Over” in two of the last three games, but he has had tough games on the road, thus, I see him hitting “Under” here at least.

Main pick: Points: Jalen Williams U 20.5 for -108 at FanDuel

Minnesota Timberwolves vs Oklahoma City Thunder Game 2 Prediction- NBA Betting Lines

The Thunder have done a wonderful job of stifling any sort of big runs by the Timberwolves. Their ability to close the faucet on the defensive end is second to none, especially in the second half.

The Wolves will need major contributions from their tertiary options to pull through. I see them forcing a low-scorer and finally winning their first game in the series. I will risk a money line in their favor.

Bettling Lines:

  • Total: 217.5. O:-115. U: -105 (BetMGM)
  • Spread: Thunder: -3 -108.  Timberwolves +3: -114 (FanDuel)
  • Player Props: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: 31.5 Points. O: -110. U: -110 (BetMGM)

Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
