On Sunday, 04/27, the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-1) will host the Los Angeles Lakers (1-2) in Game 4 of the NBA Playoffs’ First Round. The Timberwolves won Game 3 by eight points as Lakers ace Luka Doncic suffered a stomach bug. Can the Lakers level things as they hope for Doncic’s recovery? Read through the preview, total predictions, and player props here.
The Timberwolves are finishing well
Lakers’ biggest ace, Luka Doncic, had a tough time on the floor as he fought a stomach bug. But LeBron James put the team on his back and exploded for 38 points. The Lakers had a four-point first-half lead. But the Timberwolves found a way back in after a 32-26 third quarter.
The Timberwolves entered the fourth quarter with a 2-point lead. They had built a 6+ points lead, but LeBron James nailed three triples in a row to tie the game. Then Anthony Edwards and Naz Reid nailed back-to-back three-pointers, which made a huge difference in the end.
Ant-Man made two more buckets to build a decisive separation. Overall, this would be a tough loss to swallow for LA. They made four made triples than the Timberwolves, at a much better percentage. The biggest difference was the turnovers. LA committed eight while the Wolves coughed up the ball 16 times.
Lakers Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Luka Doncic | SG: Austin Reaves | SF: LeBron James | PF: Rui Hachimura | C: Jaxson Hayes
Key bench players: PG: Gabe Vincent, PF: Dorian Finney-Smith, PF: Jarred Vanderbilt.
Injuries/Updates: Nothing significant to report.
Timberwolves Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Mike Conley | SG: Anthony Edwards | SF: Jaden McDaniels | PF: Julius Randle | C: Rudy Gobert
Key bench players: SG: Donte DiVincenzo, SG: Nickeil Alexander-Walker, C: Naz Reid
Injuries/Updates: Nothing significant to report.
The Lakers are yet to score more than 104 points in the first three games. Meanwhile, the Timberwolves have put up 116-117 points in two gams thus far. It implies that Minnesota has figured out its offensive depth, thanks to its depth.
But LeBron James is in the groove, while Doncic will likely be healthy for the next game, which means the potential to score high has grown. I believe Game 4 will be in the 216-223 range.
Anthony Edwards to score over 28.5 points: Ant-Man had his best outing of the playoffs as he exploded for 29 points. He has found his stroke from long range and can be in for a big night here, too.
Austin Reaves to score over 19.5 points: AR-15 scored 20 points in Game 3 after having 16 points in each of the two games previously. He nailed five triples in Game 3, so he is in rhythm. I expect him to be over the 20-point mark.
Naz Reid to score over 14.5 points: Reid had 11 points in Game 3, after 9 points in Game 2. Meanwhile, he had 23 points in Game 1. In Game 4, I expect similar heroics.
Main pick: Anthony Edwards O 28.5 points for -115 at BetMGM
The Lakers need their leading scorer back in the groove. On the other hand, the Timberwolves have found great spark in Jaden McDaniels, who has been a superb second scoring option alongside Edwards.
LBJ is doing a great job, while Reaves also showed his touch from deep in the last game. But the bench play has been in the Timberwolves’ favor, too. Thus, they have become favorites in the series as a lower seed. However, I see the Lakers flipping the script here.
Safe Spread Pick: Lakers -1.5 for +115 at BetMGM

nba Hi, I am Shubham. I am currently an NBA Predictions Writer on The Playoffs. I enjoy this job because it helps keep me in the loop about the game I love while fulfilling the pleasure I derive from stats. I got into NBA writing through social media interactions in the mid-2010s as I shared my takes on young talents such as D’Angelo Russell. I hope you enjoy reading my pieces as much as Dennis Rodman loved rebounding the basketball!
