The Lakers have been pathetic at clutch

The Lakers messed up a golden chance to get back in the series during Game 4. After being down by 3 points in the first half, they made a fierce 14-0 run to begin the third quarter, nailing four triples. It helped them seize the momentum, and the Lakers entered the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead. 

But Anthony Edwards was ready. He scored 11 straight points to cut the deficit to 4. Then, with around four minutes, he made three free throws to get back the lead. Naz Reid, Donte DiVincenzo, and Jaden McDaniels made crucial buckets.

LeBron James committed a decisive turnover during an inbound situation with half a minute left in the game. Then Edwards nailed two more free throws to extend the lead. Austin Reaves had the chance to win at the buzzer but an aggressive Timberwolves blitz resulted in a poor quality shot from the corner.

The Lakers have committed such big-time errors throughout the season. They often zone out down the stretch, and they can’t afford such mistakes in the postseason scenario where chances to come back reduce. They once again got outhustled.

Wolves captured 18 offensive rebounds compared to 11 by the Lakers. It helped negate a +5 three-pointers edge by the Lakers. This was yet another instance when the Lakers converted more threes but lost. It implies a serious lack of concentration in crucial moments. Unfortunately, it may be too late to rectify such errors.

Luka Doncic to be held below 30.5 points: Doncic has continued to post godly numbers against Minnesota. He had 36 in the last game after recovering from a stomach bug. However, I see the Timberwolves restricting him to the 26-29 range.

Naz Reid to nail more than 1.5 triples: Reid has made 2 or more long-range bombs in three of the four games, including 6 in Game 1. I see him nailing 3 here.

The Lakers have done a poor job of closing out games and now stand at the brink. Meanwhile, Minnesota has proven that its late-season turnaround was no joke. They have played their heart out and are somehow becoming even better at clutch.

Thus, Wolves will enter with a certain edge here despite facing a desperate team on the heels of elimination. The bookmakers have given a spread of -5.5 towards the Lakers, but I will go for the + in the case of the Wolves, because they have instilled great faith. Thus, it can be a close loss even if they lose.
