The Green Bay Packers played their Week 15 game against the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado, during the late afternoon slate of the Sunday NFL games.

Holding the number 2 seed in the NFC, the Packers came into the game looking for a win to keep the Bears at bay, but unfortunately, their 26-34 loss to Denver has sent them spiraling to the seventh seed with just three games left in the season.

But that is not the only bad news for Cheeseheads, as Green Bay has also been dealt a severe blow to their chances in the postseason with the injury to top pass rusher Micah Parsons.

Micah Parsons Injury Update

One of the league’s most feared pass rushers, Micah Parsons, has suffered what looks like an ACL tear. The 4-time Pro Bowler went down during the Packers’ game against the Broncos on Sunday. The injury sustained by Parsons is a non-contact injury that occurred late in the third quarter on a pass play.

Parsons got past the Broncos’ offensive lineman on his way toward Bo Nix, but during the change of direction, his foot landed awkwardly, and he went down clutching his leg in quite some pain. The Packers’ edge rusher was able to walk back to the locker room with support. The initial diagnosis seems to be an ACL tear, but the exact details will follow upon further evaluation.

What Does Parsons’ Injury Mean for the Packers Going Forward?

Although the extent of Parsons’ injury is yet to be revealed, there is a very strong chance that the defensive phenom’s season has come to an end. And if that is the case, it will no doubt be a monumental loss for Green Bay and its defense.

The 26-year-old defender created quite a stir during the offseason with his contract dispute with the Dallas Cowboys. Eventually, after being traded just days before the start of the season to the Packers, Cheesehead fans were ecstatic to have landed one of the top players at his position.

Through the first 14 games of the season, Parsons provided a clear boost to the Packers’ defense. He has 12.5 sacks on the season, and his presence elevated the play of others around him, including Rashan Gary, who also has 7.5 sacks this year.

Moreover, Parsons draws multiple double teams in a game, and without him in the lineup, opposing offenses would have an easier time in pass protection as well as run blocking. Needless to say, Parsons’ impact on the field cannot be matched, and if his season is over, then the Green Bay defense will have to step up as a unit to cover their loss.
