Miami Heat suspend Jimmy Butler indefinitely for walking out of practice ahead of trade deadline

The Miami Heat handed another suspension to their star forward Jimmy Butler, marking his third suspension ahead of the trade deadline. The team has handed back-to-back suspensions to Butler for his disciplinary issues, and it goes without saying that the relationship between him and the franchise have changed beyond repair.

The Heat, who have performed inconsistently with a current tally of 22-22 in the current season, handed the first seven-game suspension to Butler after “multiple instances of conduct detrimental” to the team.

He has been openly expressing his desire to leave Miami and expressed his preference for any other team than the Heat. After serving the suspension, he was returned to the court, he was once again handed a two-game suspension after missing a team flight to Milwaukee. His suspension was due to “insubordinate conduct and conduct detrimental to the team.”

However he was expected to come back from his second suspension on Monday, only to find himself being sidelined for a third time. According to reports by The Associated Press, Butler was told during the shootaround that he was not going to be featured in the starting lineup for the game against Orlando on Monday. He left the practice and his move led to his indefinite suspension.

Butler had missed Miami’s 14 out of 19 games, including nine of the last 112 because of the suspensions. Announcing his third suspension of the month, the Heat, sitting on the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, said,

“The Miami Heat are suspending Jimmy Butler without pay effective immediately for an indefinite period to last no fewer than five games.”

“The suspension is due to a continued pattern of disregard of team rules, engaging in conduct detrimental to the team and intentionally withholding services. This includes walking out of practice earlier today,” the team statement read.
