Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Match Preview

Grizzlies: Incredible returns but with a catch

This will be a back-to-back affair for the Grizzlies after they play the New York Knicks the previous night. They haven’t ended February on a high note, losing four out of their last seven games before the Knicks affair. These losses came against teams with +500. Record which has been an issue throughout the season, as they have a 14-15 record against such teams. But their offensive chops are top-notch as they lead the league with 123.3 points per game(1st) for the season. However, their defense has let them down as they have conceded 116.6 PPG(6th worst). They need to shore up their defense to make a deep run in the postseason.

Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Ja Morant | SG: Desmond Bane | SF: Jaylen Wells | PF: Jaren Jackson Jr.i | C: Zach Edey

Injuries: Information to be updated later.

Spurs: No Wemby, no chance

The Spurs will enter the match-up after a 12-point loss against the Houston Rockets despite a 22-point performance by Stephon Castle. They are on a four-game losing streak in what has been a painful, premature end to their chances of making it to the postseason. The management did a terrific job of trading for De’Aaron Fox, but before he could mesh with Victor Wembanyama, the latter was out for the season due to a serious health issue. Thus, the future of the franchise is on a knife’s edge now.

Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Chris Paul | PG/SG: De’Aaron Fox | SG/SF: Devin Vassell | SF/PF: Harrison Barnes | C: Bismack Biyombo

Injuries: Will be updated later

Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Total Over/Under Prediction

The Spurs have been mostly in the 106-111 points range despite their wonky offense and Fox’s massive offensive struggles. Meanwhile, defensively, they have given up 114 or more in three of the last four games. On the other hand, the Grizzlies have the habit of engaging in high-scoring games that often go past 240+ points. It can be the case here despite a back-to-back situation. However, I believe the total will be more in the 228-238 points range here.

Projected Predictions:

  • Total Under 239.5 for +115 at BetMGM
  • Spurs: Points Under 114.5 for +110 at BetMGM

Memphis Grizzlies Player Props Predictions- Projected Top Bets & Odds

Ja Morant to score 23+ points: Morant tallied 22.3 PPG in February, his second-highest monthly output of the season. He doesn’t play many back-to-backs but did score 23 in his last b-2-b against the Orlando Magic. I believe he will at least hit that mark here, but let us see if the management opts to play him against a struggling team in the first place.

Zach Edey to grab at least 8 rebounds: The Grizzlies rookie tallied 9 rebounds per game in February. I expect him to be in the 10-12 rebounds range here.

San Antonio Spurs Player Props Predictions – Projected Top Bets & Odds

Stephon Castle to score at least 16 points: The Spurs guard was on fire before the All-Star break but has struggled massively since then. He averaged 7 PPG in four straight games post-break but did have a strong 22-point showing in the last game. I believe he will carry that momentum in this match and score in the 17-21 range.

De’Aaron Fox to bounce back with a 20+ point performance: I expected the shifty guard to recover against the Pelicans and the Rockets, but he has averaged just 11.7 PPG on an abysmal 24.48% shooting clip during the three-game period. However, this has to be the game where the elite scorer bounces back and scores in the 23-27 point range.

Memphis Grizzlies vs San Antonio Spurs Match Prediction

The Grizzlies will play a back-to-back here, while the Spurs will have a two-day break, implying the latter will have fresher legs. However, Memphis has a much deeper scoring lineup and will love to take a win against the short-handed squad. This will more likely be a dogfight, but I will put my money on the Grizzlies nonetheless. The Grizzlies did lose to the Knicks by a one point and may be exhausted after a tough battle, but I still see a double-digit victory for them.
