Memphis Grizzlies vs Minnesota Timberwolves Match Preview

Recent form

The Grizzlies will come into this game after an expected 24-point win (124-100) against the Charlotte Hornets, as Ja Morant exploded for 28 points. It was their third straight win, a much-needed relief after a lean 1-7 spell. Ja Morant’s return has been huge to improve the team, while Zach Edey has rebounded(17.2 rebounds per game in the last four games) brilliantly. Memphis doesn’t have a strong defense, but their offense is top-notch. Having Morant is a plus in the postseason as he is one of the best clutch players.

On the other hand, the Timberwolves will come into this game after a heartbreaking 7-point loss (103-110) against the Milwaukee Bucks. The team coughed up a 24-point lead in the final quarter, in what could have been their sixth straight win. This loss can sting a lot as each defeat brings the fear of play-in tournament in a wide-open race from 3rd to 8th seed. The Wolves are 13-4 since March, boosting their chances of making a deep postseason run but the Bucks loss may hold them back.

Who will fall, and who will rise?

The Grizzlies have a decisive 2-0 lead in the 3-game season series between the two teams. These losses are agonizing for Timberwolves because both of them were just by two points. Lately, the Wolves have done better on both ends than the Grizzlies, and the latter has a relatively tougher two-game slate after the game. But the importance of this game can’t be emphasized enough.

A 3-game winning streak can help Minnesota hit the 49-win mark, while a couple of losses here can sink Grizzlies below the 6th spot. However, if both teams finish with the same record, the tiebreaker gives Memphis an edge. Thus, we are in for a photo finish. As for this game, the Timberwolves have won seven out of their last eight games away from home, including two against the Nuggets. Thus, there will be a handful for Memphis here.

Grizzlies Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Ja Morant | SG: Desmond Bane | PF: Santi Aldama | PF: Jaren Jackson Jr. | C: Zach Edey

Key Injuries/Updates: Jaylen Wells and Brandon Clarke are OUT for the season.

Timberwolves Expected Starting Lineup

PG: Mike Conley | SG: Anthony Edwards | SF/PF: Jaden McDaniels | PF: Julius Randle | C: Rudy Gobert

Key Injuries/Updates: Nothing of significance to report.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Minnesota Timberwolves Total Over/Under Prediction

Both teams have engaged in a high-scoring and a low-scoring game. Their first match-up accounted for 252 points, and the second yielded 214 points. The Timberwolves have a better defense and have limited teams under 110 a bunch of times lately. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies often allow even average offense to put up 115+ over them. I believe this game will be in the Timberwolves’ ballpark, with the score being in the 220s

Memphis Grizzlies Player Props Predictions- Projected Top Bets & Odds

Ja Morant to be held under 25.5 points: The high-scoring guard has put up 28.4 PPG since the last five games, the offensive outburst coinciding with the firing of their coach, Taylor Jenkin,s who wanted more ball-sharing. I believe the Timberwolves will pop his scoring balloon here, as he has averaged just 15.5 PPG in the two games against Minnesota.

Scotty Pippen Jr. to score over 14.5 points: SPJ can see an uptick in minutes with Wells out. He has averaged 13 PPG in the last four games. I believe he will be in the 15-19 range here.

Minnesota Timberwolves Player Props Predictions – Projected Top Bets & Odds

Anthony Edwards to score over 30.5 points: The isolation phenom has accumulated 33 PPG in four games this month. I expect him to continue his red-hot form here.

Rudy Gobert to grab over 12.5 rebounds: The Timberwolves center has averaged around 13 RPG since March. I believe he will hit the mark in this game, too.

Memphis Grizzlies vs Minnesota Timberwolves Match Prediction

The Ja Morant vs Anthony Edwards match-up is the headline here. I believe Edwards will come on top during the duel, which increases the chances of a Minnesota win. I also expect Timberwolves to put on a defensive show away from home and also finish with a strong offensive run. Thus, I back them to emerge victorious by about 5-7 points.
