Mason Taylor Draft Projection- Where will the Tigers Tight End Land?

Mason Taylor comes from a football family as his father, Jason Taylor is a Hall of Famer who played for 15 years in the NFL as a defensive end. His uncle, Zach Thomas, also played in the NFL for 13 years and is a Hall of Fame Linebacker. Similarly Mason has followed in his family’s footsteps as he played as the tight end for the LSU Tigers. He spent three seasons with the Tigers and in his true freshman season, Taylor played in 14 games, while starting for 13, and finished third on the team with 38 receptions and 414 receiving yards. His 38 receptions placed him second in LSU’s history for a tight end in a single season.

Taylor production dropped by a little in his sophomore season, particularly due to an injury, because of which he only played in 12 games. However, he still caught 36 receptions, had 348 receiving yards, and a touchdown. And he also caught a pass in every game he played, showing his consistency. In his junior year, which also happened to be his final collegiate football season, Taylor caught 55 passes for 546 yards and two touchdowns. He also set LSU’s single season record for a tight end with his 55 receptions.

He developed into one of the best tight ends across the nation, and is also the most productive TE in LSU’s history. For his efforts he was selected to the Senior Bowl in 2025, and Third-Team All-Sec in 2024.

Taylor was slowly starting to find his footing in the collegiate football world, and is still a work in progress. However, his ability to catch the football and because of his family’s history with pro football, he is looked at as a player with a very high ceiling. Many NFL analysts have compared him to the likes of Dallas Goedert, and is looked at as a prospect who has very smooth moving ability with more than average athleticism. But there are some flaws that Taylor needs to work on, as he is too easy too read and isn’t unpredictable enough in his route running. Taylor also need to focus more on the details as he can become a one-speed route runner.

Mason Taylor’s Draft Projection

According to the latest mock drafts, Mason Taylor will most likely be a second round draft pick. And some reports suggest that Taylor could be picked somewhere between the Seattle Seahawks who have the 50th pick, and the Denver Broncos who have the 51st pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
