Manchester City head into Saturday’s clash hoping to register their 10th Premier League victory of the season when they welcome Sunderland to the Etihad Stadium. They’ve had a roller-coaster win away at Fulham and a narrow escape against Leeds last weekend.
Now, Man City remain sharp in attack but fragile defensively. Sunderland arrive in Manchester buoyant, having shown strong fighting spirit over their past two games. The newly promoted side appear confident, resilient and keen to upset a club they haven’t beaten in over a decade.

Man City continue to be without midfielders Rodri. He is still working back to fitness from a hamstring injury. And Mateo Kovacic is recovering from an ankle/heel problem. That has forced manager Pep Guardiola to rely on Nico Gonzalez in midfield. He has started the last eight games and is expected to retain his spot.
At the back, players such as Rico Lewis, Rayan Ait‑Nouri, John Stones and Nathan Ake are under consideration. Up front, Phil Foden, fresh from scoring four goals in his last two Premier League games, is likely to play in an advanced central role behind Erling Haaland. On the right flank, captain Bernardo Silva could be replaced by Savinho or Rayan Cherki to freshen up the attack.

Sunderland remain without key midfielder Habib Diarra, who is sidelined with a long-term groin injury. Meanwhile, Dennis Cirkin, Leo Hjelde, and Aji Alese are lacking match fitness. It’s uncertain whether anyone of the trio will make the squad. Manager Regis Le Bris is expected to stick with a five-man defence.
He’s expected to be using wing-backs Trai Hume and Reinildo Mandava either side of central defenders Nordi Mukiele, Daniel Ballard and Omar Alderete. In midfield, Granit Xhaka is expected to link up with Noah Sadiki. Up front, though Brian Brobbey started the last match, he may face competition from Wilson Isidor or Eliezer Mayenda for a starting berth.
Given how the match between Manchester City and Sunderland is shaping up, a bet on over 3.5 total goals looks compelling. Man City enter the fixture fresh from a dramatic 5-4 win over Fulham. This match highlighted their attacking power but also exposed significant defensive frailties. Meanwhile, Sunderland have shown they are no pushovers.
They recently came from two goals down to beat Bournemouth 3-2 and secured a hard-fought draw at Liverpool. They proved that they can score and create chances even against big clubs. Considering City’s attacking firepower and recurrent defensive leaks, added to Sunderland’s willingness to attack, over 3.5 goals seems like a realistic and justified outcome.
Backed by fine form and a ruthless finishing record, Erling Haaland remains a strong candidate to score anytime. He recently reached a major milestone. He netted his 100th Premier League goal in record-breaking fashion during City’s 5-4 win at Fulham. Man City are showing defensive issues.
Even so, their offense remains dominant and Haaland, often supplied by a creative midfield and incisive wingers, regularly finds goal-scoring opportunities. Considering Sunderland have shown vulnerability at times, especially dealing with pressure, betting on Haaland to score seems a solid play at −240.
Wilson Isidor deserves attention at +290 to either score or assist. Especially given Sunderland’s recent form and attacking mindset. In their recent 1-1 draw at Liverpool, he came close to a late winner. A goal-line clearance denied him in stoppage time.
Additionally, Sunderland’s comeback win against Bournemouth underlined their forwards’ capability to contribute decisively when under pressure. Facing a Man City defence that has been leaky, conceding multiple goals in successive games, the odds for Isidor to register a goal or an assist look tempting and justified.
| Picks | Moneyline |
| Erling Haaland to score first | +185 |
| Wilson Isidor to score anytime | +330 |
| Jeremy Doku to assist anytime | +220 |
| Phil Foden to either score or assist | -155 |
| Trai Hume to see a card | +215 |

City will likely assert dominance early and score, but their defensive lapses make it plausible that Sunderland will find chances too. Meanwhile, Sunderland have shown they can both score and hold their own against top-level opposition, so expecting them to respond with goals of their own isn’t far-fetched.
Given Manchester City’s electric attack but increasingly fragile defence, as shown in their 5-4 win over Fulham, and Sunderland’s impressive resilience in recent matches, a 2–2 draw feels like a reasonable prediction. The combination of City’s offensive threat and Sunderland’s grit suggests a high-scoring draw: 2-2.
The Manchester City vs Sunderland Premier League clash is on December 6, 2025, at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England.
Manchester City are favorites to win with a moneyline at -425, to draw at +500 and for Sunderland to win at +1100.
Erling Haaland to score anytime: -235
Jeremy Doku to assist anytime: +195
Wilson Isidor to either score or assist: +240
