Mallorca vs Barcelona Preview, Betting Odds and Predictions – 16/08/25

Moumita Dutta

La Liga returns this weekend as champions Barcelona begin their title defence with a trip to Estadi Mallorca Son Moix. Hansi Flick’s men, dominant across Spain last season, are once again heavy favourites, while Mallorca aim to test their credentials on opening night.

The Catalan giants secured a domestic treble last season and will look to maintain that momentum, while Mallorca, who finished 10th in the 2024-25 campaign, hope to build on their strong mid-table showing and push towards European qualification this term.

Mallorca vs Barcelona Preview

Mallorca

Jagoba Arrasate’s side collected 48 points last season, narrowly missing out on Europe, and head into their fifth consecutive year in the top flight. New signings Pablo Torre, Lucas Bergstrom, and Mateo Joseph add depth, though Samu Costa is sidelined through injury.

Torre could make his debut against his former club, while Vedat Muriqi is expected to spearhead the attack, supported by Sergi Darder and Takuma Asano. Mallorca enjoyed a positive pre-season with three wins in six matches, but their recent record against Barcelona is concerning, having lost 14 of their last 15 league meetings.

Barcelona

Barcelona arrive well-rested after skipping the Club World Cup and enjoyed a perfect pre-season, highlighted by a 5-0 Joan Gamper Trophy win over Como. Summer recruits Joan Garcia, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji have bolstered Flick’s squad.

Though Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Dani Olmo, and Robert Lewandowski remain doubtful. Garcia is tipped to debut in goal, while Fermin Lopez and Ferran Torres are likely starters. With over 100 league goals scored last season and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal leading the line, Barça look primed to launch their campaign in style.

Mallorca vs Barcelona Over/ Under Predictions

Total Goals Over 4.5 @ +325 as per BetMGM:

Barcelona head into this La Liga opener in potent form, following a dominant 5–0 win over Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Under Hansi Flick, they boast an attack-oriented philosophy and averaged over 100 goals in last season’s campaign. Thus, reinforcing confidence that the scoreline could easily stretch to something like 4-0 or 3-1 in their favour. Mallorca, meanwhile, netted just 35 goals over 38 matches last season and historically struggle against Barca – losing 14 of their last 15 head-to-head – making the prospect of high-scoring returns even more likely.

Mallorca vs Barcelona Player Picks

Raphinha to score anytime @ +135 as per FanDuel:

Raphinha remains a consistent threat in Barcelona’s forward line. Last season he delivered an impressive 10 goals and 11 assists in 37 appearances under Flick, and even chipped in with a hat-trick during pre-season. While precise odds may vary, +135 on Raphinha scoring anytime reflects his proven ability to be decisive and find the net for Barça.

Lamine Yamal to either score or assist anytime @ -120 as per FanDuel:

Mallorca start the season eager and fresh, yet their historical form against Barça is poor, with their last league win over the Catalans dating back to 2009. Barcelona, by contrast, closed last term with sustained excellence and began this campaign emphatically in pre-season.

Mallorca vs Barcelona Predictions

PicksMoneyline
Lamine Yamal to score anytime+175
Robert Lewandowski to score two or more+360
Raphinha to assist anytime+140
Lamine Yamal to either score or assist-125
Pablo Maffeo to see a card+180
Ronald Araujo to commit one foul or more-475

Real Madrid are expected to bounce back strongly after a frustrating 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal. With their superior quality and attacking options, including a Vinicius Junior, they should comfortably overpower a Pachuca side. Especially after they looked defensively fragile in their 2-1 loss to Salzburg.

Final Prediction: Mallorca 1-4 Barcelona

Expect a commanding performance culminating in a 4-1 win for the visitors – rationalizing both the over – 3.5 goals market and the likelihood of contributions from Raphinha and Yamal in the final third.
