Winner to face Pavlyuchenkova or Ito in Round-3.
World No. 6 Madison Keys sets off on another quest for her first tour-level title since winning the Australian Open in January. The American is set to lock horns with German youngster Eva Lys in the 2025 Cincinnati Open Round of 64 over the weekend. Keys, a former US Open runner-up, is an outside favourite at Flushing Meadows. Can she head into New York with some much-needed momentum? Let’s analyse the contest – courtesy some trustworthy betting odds by BetMGM.
The beginning of the 2025 season was something Madison Keys wouldn’t have believed in her wildest dreams. The 30-year-old won consecutive trophies on Australian soil, before reaching the Indian Wells semifinal. Since then, Keys has yet to reach a tour-level summit clash. Currently ranked No. 6 in the world, the American has a 35-11 win-loss record this season. Her best result during the grass court campaign was a semifinal finish at Queen’s Club, followed by a quarterfinal exit in her most recent tournament in Montreal.

Having beaten a fellow American in Bernarda Pera in the opening round, Eva Lys has a monumental task at hand. Surprisingly, the German’s best performance of the season came at the Australian Open – where she reached the Round of 16. At just 23, Lys is nearing her maiden Top-50 entry. She managed to hit 72% first serves in her Round-1 encounter, thus improving her 2025 record to 22-18 ahead of the Cincinnati Round of 64. Lys was beaten 2-6 2-6 by Iga Swiatek in her most recent outing at the Canadian Open.
The head-to-head record between Madison Keys and Eva Lys is 0-0. The Cincinnati Open 2025 will host the first clash between these two players.
| Madison Keys | Category | Eva Lys |
| 1 | Grand Slams | 0 |
| 10 | WTA Singles Titles | 0 |
| 0 | WTA Doubles Titles | 0 |
| 1 | WTA-1000 Titles | 0 |

Questions can be raised regarding whether or not Lys is equipped to handle the power-packed style of play that Keys brings to the table. The German will need to target the Grand Slam winner’s backhand, and also pounce on her second serves. A common tactic against the American is the use of the drop shot. However, Keys can take advantage of the minimal reach of 5’5” Lys – resulting in a potentially one-sided affair.
Prediction: Madison Keys in straight sets.
In terms of the betting market, there is one way traffic in favour of Madison Keys. She has around 89% chance of progressing to the next round, according to the money line. There is very little possibility of Lys grabbing a set (as per BetMGM):
