Lynx vs. Liberty: Napheesa Collier Guides Minnesota to Big Victory over Liberty in WNBA Finals Rematch

The Minnesota Lynx overcame the short-handed New York Liberty 100-93 on Wednesday night in a rematch of 2024 WNBA Finals. Napheesa Collier highlighted a 30-point performance to hand over the Defending Champions their third straight loss. Minnesota’s home dominance continues with a 15-1 record, the only loss came last week against the Dream.

Collier, who was on the losing side in the last year’s WNBA Finals, led the Lynx with 30 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two assists on 11-for-16 shooting. This marks her fifth 30-point game this season, matching A’ja Wilson as the league leader. Kayla McBride contributed 24 points, and Courtney Williams added 13 assists and nine rebounds. Alanna Smith added 12 points for and Carleton and Natisha Hiedeman each scored 10.

Liberty’s Late Fourth-Quarter Rally Gets Spoiled by Napheesa Collier

The second-quarter surge allowed the Lynx to take control of the game. Minnesota outscored New York 27-18 in the second quarter to take a nine-point lead at break. Collier scored 19 points in the first half, including her team’s final 11 of the second quarter. The Liberty had a 7-0 run in the end of the third quarter to reduce the deficit to six points.

The Lynx opened up the double-digit lead and extended it to 13 points with Bridget Carleton’ 3-pointer with 7:08 remaining in the game. Minnesota stretched their lead to 92-77 and the Liberty replied back with 11 straight points over a two-minute period. New York cut the deficit to only four points but Napheesa Collier’s three-point play with less than a minute canceled any comeback chance of Liberty.

Minnesota Lynx made 15 three-pointers in the game and their impressive 3-point shooting helped them to cross 100 points for the fourth time this season. The Lynx now improved to 23-5 and retain the top spot in the WNBA standings. The Liberty conceded 100 points for the fourth time and each time, they dropped the game. It was also their third straight loss in the regular season and they dropped to 5-6 on the road matchups this year.

Isabelle Harrison added 15 points and Marine Johannes scored 14 for the Liberty, who missed Breanna Stewart due to a bone bruise in her right knee. New York will now play Connecticut Sun for a two-game set and will eye to end their three-match losing streak.
