Lynx vs Liberty: Courtney Williams’ Season-High 26 Points Uplift Minnesota to 86-80 Win Over Liberty in Thrilling Contest

Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams dropped her season-high performance of 26 points to lead the side to a 86-80 win over the New York Liberty. The win extended Lynx’s streak to 3-0 over the reigning WNBA champions. Williams grabbed five rebounds, five assists and dropped three 3PM, while shooting 10-of-18 from the field. She now has the third most games in the history of the Lynx with 25 points, five rebounds, and five assists after Napheesa Collier and Maya Moore.

Apart from Williams, Kayla McBride dropped 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists while Jessica Shepard came up with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists. In addition to them, Alanna Smith also dropped a two-point performance with 14 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. This marked the sixth straight victory for the Lynx and extended their home tally to 17-1.

On the Liberty’s side, Jonquel Jones led the charts with 17 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Sabrina Ionescu came up with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two assists while Marine Johannes poured in 12 points, one rebound, and two assists off the bench. Kennedy Burke dropped 11 points, while Natasha Cloud and Emma Meesseman pitched in 10 points each. This was the second-straight loss for New York, who are now 21-13 this season.

Minnesota Lynx Dominate New York With Effortless Defense

The Minnesota Lynx, who were without Napheesa Collier due to an ankle injury, displayed effortless defense, allowing easy shots for the Liberty. They forced misses on New York’s 13 of the first 18 shots, while forcing four turnovers. After leading the opening quarter at 21-12, they extended the gap to 15 points after a forced turnover in the early second quarter. However, it didn’t take long for the game to flip as during the second quarter, the Lynx’s offense went cold and missed 14 of their next 17 shots with seven turnovers.

After a few more struggles, the Lynx got themselves back into the game and went for a 9-4 run and tied the score at 71-71 while there were six minutes left on the clock. The game remained close down the stretch, but Williams’ moves gave them their first lead of the second half when there were less than two minutes left. In the final seconds, Kayla McBride dropped a 3-pointer to put her side up by four points. Eventually, the Lynx rolled past the Liberty 86-80, extending their season tally to 28-5.
