Lynx Suffer Major Setback as Karlie Samuelson Ruled Out for Season

Minnesota Lynx lose a key rotation piece mid-season as Karlie Samuelson’s injury requires surgery

Just as their season gains traction, the Minnesota Lynx are hit with a significant setback. The league leaders have lost one of their prominent players, which has given a huge blow to the roster.

Karlie Samuelson is out of the WNBA 2025 season after suffering a left foot injury. While the injury occurred in late May, Samuelson had been undergoing rehab until a recent setback.

The guard will now require a surgery and hence will miss the rest of the season. The Lynx had hoped to develop Karlie Samuelson into a consistent starter after bringing her into the lineup rotation. The 30-year-old was close to building her way from the rotation role, but the unfortunate injury has pushed back those plans.

Lynx’s roster depth will be affected due to the injury. However, with the kind of the start the side has had, everyone is stepping up to complete their duties and make the season special.

Momentum Builds For the Lynx

The Minnesota Lynx sit at the first position of the WNBA table with 15 wins and just two losses in 17 games. They have a fine record of .882 and are on a three game winning streak. A notable distance is in place between the second placed Liberty, and Lynx.

However, last week’s WNBA Commissioner’s Cup defeat against the Indiana Fever was another setback for the Minnesota Lynx. Having a strong momentum coming into the game, the home side folded instantly, even without the presence of Caitlin Clark.

That crushing Commissioner’s Cup final defeat could now become the fuel for a fired-up Lynx run this season. The response since the loss has been good, with the Naphessa Collier led side winning against Mystics by 92-75.

Collier led the scoring sheet with 28 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Other teammates couldn’t contribute much. No other player scored more than 10 points. The Minnesota Lynx next face the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday.
