Luka Doncic Shines With 39 Points Against France in EuroBasket 2025 Game, Crosses 1,000-Point National Milestone

Slovenia’s EuroBasket 2025 campaign took another hit on Saturday, as it fell 103-95 to France despite a strong first half and another standout performance from Luka Doncic.

Just two days after dropping its opener to Poland, Slovenia took the floor against a powerful French side. Early signs were encouraging, with Doncic orchestrating a fluid offense and Slovenia building a 54-47 halftime advantage. But the momentum shifted quickly after the break, with France taking control in the third quarter and never looking back.

The defensive lapses proved costly. Slovenia allowed France to score 25 points in transition and convert 60% of their attempts inside the arc. Sylvain Francisco, the 6-foot-1 French guard, was the difference maker, punishing Slovenia’s defense with 32 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Doncic, however, once again carried his team with a mix of shooting, creativity and resilience. He went 8-of-20 from the field but connected on four of 10 three-pointers and nearly perfect from the line, hitting 19 of 20 free throws. The Lakers star finished with 39 points for the second straight outing, alongside nine assists, eight rebounds and two steals.

Saturday’s clash also brought a personal milestone for Luka Doncic. Needing 28 points to reach the 1,000-point mark in senior official competitions with Slovenia, he achieved the feat midway through his performance against France.

Slovenia’s start to EuroBasket 2025 has been difficult. After conceding 105 points in its first game against Poland, it again struggled defensively versus France, allowing back-to-back opponents to cross the 100-point threshold. These results leave Slovenia under pressure as it prepares for the remaining three group-stage fixtures.

The next test arrives Sunday against Belgium, where Slovenia will try to regroup and restore momentum. For Luka Doncic, whose individual brilliance remains undeniable, the challenge is now ensuring that his heroics translate into team success as the tournament progresses.
