Loui Eriksson Retires After 16 Memorable NHL Seasons

The veteran winger closes the curtain on a remarkable career, leaving a legacy of consistency, skill, and leadership in the NHL.

Loui Eriksson officially announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday, concluding an impressive 16-season career.

The 39-year-old forward tallied 613 points (253 goals, 360 assists) across 1,050 games, playing for the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks, and Arizona Coyotes. In the postseason, Eriksson contributed 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 44 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

“It’s time, After a year and a half of reflection, it’s time to officially retire. Hockey has given me more than I could have ever imagined. I’ve had the highest of highs and lowest of lows, but at the end of the day, I’m so thankful for the memories that I’m bringing as I walk away from the game of hockey.” : Eriksson said in a post by CAA Hockey on Instagram.

Eriksson’s final NHL season came in 2021-22, when he recorded 19 points (three goals, 16 assists) in 73 games with the Coyotes. A second-round pick (33rd overall) by the Stars in the 2003 NHL Draft, Eriksson made an immediate impact, scoring in his NHL debut against the Colorado Avalanche on October 4, 2006.

His prime years came between 2008 and 2012 with Dallas, where he amassed 278 points (118 goals, 160 assists) in 325 games—ranking 21st in the league during that span. Eriksson’s standout 2010-11 season saw him reach a career-high 73 points (27 goals, 46 assists) in 79 games and earn an NHL All-Star Game selection. On July 4, 2013, Eriksson was traded to the Boston Bruins as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Tyler Seguin to Dallas, marking a new chapter in his consistent and noteworthy NHL journey.
