Musetti favored but Korda’s steadier form keeps this matchup truly unpredictable in Athens
Second seed Lorenzo Musetti will take on unseeded Sebastian Korda in the semifinals of the Hellenic Championship 2025. Musetti received a bye, then rallied past wild card Stan Wawrinka before defeating fifth seed Alexandre Muller in straight sets. Korda opened with a comeback win over seventh seed Alexei Popyrin, repeated it against Damir Dzumhur, and then advanced with a straight-set win over Miomir Kecmanovic.
Musetti’s season has swung between inspired runs and frustrating setbacks, marked equally by breakthroughs and injury breaks. The Italian reached finals in Monte-Carlo and Chengdu, falling to Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Tabilo, while also posting semifinal runs in Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, and Vienna. Quarterfinal finishes in Argentina, the US Open, and Beijing helped him climb to a career-high World No. 6 in June, though he has since slipped to No. 9.

Injuries repeatedly cut into his momentum. Musetti withdrew from Rio with a calf issue and from Barcelona with a right-leg problem. He retired in Argentina due to another calf injury, again at Roland Garros with a left-leg issue, and later in Beijing due to a physical setback. His most recent outing ended in a first-round loss in Paris to Lorenzo Sonego in three sets. Even with turbulence, his numbers stay competitive with 261 aces, 72% first-serve points won, 31% return points won, and a 40% break-point conversion rate of 487 opportunities.

Korda’s year has followed a similar stop-start pattern. He opened with a finals run in Adelaide, pushing Felix Auger-Aliassime to three sets, and later reached quarterfinals in Miami, Tokyo, and Stockholm, plus a semifinal in Winston-Salem. But illness forced a mid-season retirement, a lower-back issue ended his US Open run, and an early-season elbow recovery kept him out of Brisbane. Statistically, he remains solid with 313 aces, 74% first-serve points won, 27% return points won, and a 38% conversion rate on 223 break-point opportunities.
Lorenzo Musetti and Sebastian Korda are tied in their head-to-head. Their rivalry began in Lyon in 2021, where Musetti edged out a gritty three-setter. Korda answered later that season at the Next Gen ATP Finals. In 2022, Musetti once again pulled ahead with a clean straight-sets victory in Madrid, only for Korda to even the ledger in Metz, settling the rivalry.

Musetti’s highs have been higher with Masters finals and Grand Slam semifinal pushes. But his season has been repeatedly broken by injuries. Korda, regardless of his own setbacks, has delivered steadier week-to-week tennis. This match can go either way, but on paper, Musetti has the edge.
